JVeritas, I know you see California as a lost cause, so let’s use it as an example. Didn’t a recent initiative to grant equal status to homosexuals as heterosexuals in marriage go down in defeat?

Didn’t Simon almost defeat an incumbent Democrat in 1992 without financial backing from the GOP?

In that election the Democrats pulled out all the stops, every big name they could think of came out to California to help Davis.

Simon got didly squat support from the GOP. I think Bush popped into the state once for a few hours. Davis got days and days of national support.

I know my state has been surrenderd. The GOP hasn’t done anything of note here in twenty years. The leadership is non-existant.

People still have core values and concerns. They can still understand the premise of thier money being stolen from them via their paycheck. They can still understand the subject of sound education for their children. They can still understand property rights, jobs, and other issues. Our side doesn’t represent sound values in the state. We don’t win converts.

We surrender too much, when we consider states to be lost in perpetuity. You sure don’t see the Democrats giving up on sound states do you. That’s why they win and we lose.

They’re not bashful about going for the whole pie. We are.

I don't see the people of CA as a lost cause - we vote conservatively on most propositions. Prop 187 is a good example, plus the one last May to not extend the tax increases.

The problem is the politicians. I'm guessing ACORN and their ilk do not put as much effort into bussing bums to vote for props as they do for voting for candidates.

My point Doughtyone is not to surrender anything but act more pragmatically when needed and in particular in liberal states.

Even Reagan did some non conservative stuff but the majority of his actions were conservative and may be if we read his history it is very likely that we will find out that he campaigned and backed Republicans who were considered RINOS and were elected or ran in parts of the country that were not conservative.
