I’ve noticed a corollary speech pattern in Obama: it seemed he wasn’t using the “uhhhhhhhhh.....” all that much, or maybe I just didn’t notice because the other “stalling for time” measure seemed so much more obvious: instead of “uhhhhhhhh” I’d hear him drag out a full word, whether it was “aaaaaaaannnnnnnd” or any other word, usually another conjunction, midway into a sentence.Listen closely next time. “Uhhhhhhhh”s and “aaaaaannnnnnnnnd”s and “buuuuuuuttttttt”s, but select nouns also get equal time.
