New York (CNN) -- The serendipitous occurrence of this year's Thanksgiving holiday on the same evening as the Muslim Eid-ul-Adha is a festive occasion to reflect on the place of Islam in American collective consciousness.
On the same evening that millions of Americans gather around their Thanksgiving dinner to celebrate this most American of holidays, even more millions of Muslims around the globe, including the growing number of American Muslims, will do the same -- celebrating as well one of the most definitive moments of their faith -- Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son for his God.
This holiday celebration comes soon after the tragic incident at Fort Hood, when the atrocious act of a mass murderer put Islam and Muslims under some pressure to either denounce or defend their faith.
For more than three decades now, I have taught generations of American students who come to college having scarce read a word about Malcolm X, and yet everything about Martin Luther King Jr.
Until Americans come to terms with the fact that they are deeply indebted to a Muslim revolutionary for the fruits of the civil rights movement they enjoy today, Islam and Muslims will continue to be seen as archetypically alien and an everlasting danger to American lives and liberties.
Americans are Christians, Jews, Hindus, agnostics, atheists, and anything else in between -- but Americans are also Muslims, millions of them, and Islam has now become integral to what the distinguished American sociologist Robert Bellah termed our "civil religion."
It is only apt that this particular Thanksgiving, Americans think about Eid-ul-Adha, as precious to Muslim-Americans as the occasion that has gathered us all "at the table." Let's make room for Muslims "at the table" because -- to quote Langston Hughes -- they "too, sing America."

So let me get this straight. Malcom X was responsible for the success of the civil rights movement, and by proxy Islam gave America civil rights reform. All other faiths have committed great attrocities. Ft. Hood was the act of a madman. So on our national day of thanks we are to think of Islam and be thankful.

Any Muslin who whishes to eat at my table on Thanksgiving is welcomed, But I will adhere to my family traditions and will not change them one iota for anyone. He is free to eat all of the ham, deep fried turkey (in lard), stringbeans with bacon, bisquits (made with lard), turkey giblet, ham and bacon stuffing he wants. If this clashes with his traditions or religions, he is free not to come to my table. I do not celebrate his silly holiday and take no offense if he does. He should feel the same about mine.
Muslims are NOT Americans. The goal of Islam is the Global Caliphate, a goal in conflict with America. Anyone wanting to be a Muslim is giving up the right to be American by choice. Islam is a cult of global conquest, always has been and always will be.
What an odd thing to "celebrate". But then, these are Muslims.......
US muslims are Americans too, but at the end of the day, the other Americans (the rest of us) are still infidels and we know what the great prophet taught his followers about us.

If they are Americans then they should have no trouble turning in the radicals that are a threat to the rest of us Americans!

Seriously though,, foreigners are welcome to come to America and be regarded fully as Americans, on one condition. Serve your country, speak english, bring your cooking techniques and literature along, leave your murderous non-freedom loving government ideas there in the old country.
But don’t come here and give me these assaholic lectures about how the old country was somehow superior. If you think that, go back home. Mexicans are real bad about this. Like mslims who come here and lecture us on America being immoral.
