There are many interesting conclusions one can reach from recent Rasmussen Daily Tracking Polls -- including the massive spreads now defined by the two latest indicesthe Empty Tent Index and Post Racial Index.
The Empty Tent index is constructed to demonstrate the massive vote loss the McCain Campaign and other big tent Republicans suffered thanks to the strategy to reach across the aisle and not go after McCains honorable opponent and so on. We could call this the Colin Powell Impact Index or the David Brooks Crease in the Pants index, but we will stick with Empty Tent index for short.
This index is constructed by contrasting how the McCain Campaign performed with independents in the 2008 election they lost them by 21 points with how independents now view Obama since they have an understanding of who he is. According to Rasmussen today, 51% of independents strongly disapprove of Obama while only 16% strongly approve, giving Obama an index of -35% among this group of voters.
Since McCain refused to clearly define who Obama was during the campaign in an attempt to attract moderates, the spread of 56 percentage points is a pretty good snapshot of how many votes the maverick left on the table.
The Post Racial Index debuts at a whopping 58% spread. According to Rasmussen, 97% of African-Americans approve of the job Obama is doing while only 39% of white-Americans approve. This would indicate that a little more work is yet to be done on that transcendent candidate thing. In fact, we are researching to see if there has ever been a President who is so racially polarizing. We will record this as a minus 58 since a truly post-racial President would perhaps have more approval from whites than from African-Americans.
In the Give A Damn Index, Obamas number is now -20 as 56 percent of his overall approval is strong while 76% of his disapproval is firm. This indicates which way the dial is likely to move in the short term, which is downward.
The Get A Clue Index today is also at a new high or from Obamas point of view a new low at -20. This index is designed to give a snapshot of the disconnect between polls using the most engaged voters and those using the lowest common denominator of poll subjects. This not only indicates a commentary on who Obamas supporters are, it is a tweak of pollsters who use questionable populations in off election years.
Rasmussen, using only likely voters, is showing an overall approval index for Obama today at -8 with 54% at least somewhat disapproving versus 46% who at least somewhat approve. Four major polls sponsored by liberal outlets have a combined average of + 12. These polls will all use likely or registered voters as we near an election so their accuracies will improve, but they cynically use only the ACORN friendly filter of adults in off year polls.
The Got A Chance Index is now at -34% -- as 67% of the country is already firm in their opinion of Obama and only 33% have soft feelings of approval or disapproval.
As introduced a couple weeks ago, the Get Away index was a measure of how toxic Obama was to 2009 candidates. This is the comparison between how Obama did in these areas in 2008 versus how the Democrat candidates performed in 2009. These figures are now final for Virginia and New Jersey.

“MOST NAUSEATING ELECTION NIGHT SCENE Smirking little Fox pundit Billy Kristol, McC’s campaign advisor-—putting on his old reliable “Pukeneos Know Nothing About This Republican Disaster” act.”
Krauthammer had a tingle down his leg too.
Ohaha was heavly invested in the NJ gubernatorial race---one of only two 2009 statewide races (Dems lost Va, as well). Ohaha's carefully laid plans----for installing a permanent Dem majority went haywire. Pulling out all the stops for NJ made Ohaha a VERY good target for those disgusted with Ohahas policies.
OBAMA WAS DESPERATE FOR NJ's CORZINE TO WIN TO PROTECT THE WH AGENDA---OHAHA KEPT SAYING CORZINE WAS HIS "PARTNER."
Obama put the power of the WH machine behind Corzine. The NY Times reported:
(a) every TV ad Corzine put on the air was being screened by Obama's WH team.
(b) Corzine's aides gave the WH daily briefings.
(c) Obamas pollsters took over for Corzines polling team, and,
(d) White House operatives were on the ground for internal strategy sessions,
(e) White House operatives were orchestrating obscure pep rallies with Latinos (kept secret from voters),
(f) Corzine had a "Peruvian Pac" endorsing him.
(g) Ohaha campaigned in the state three times, Biden was there twice. Ohaha TV ads ran relentlessly in costly NY media markets.
(h) Corzine promised to give illegals driving credentials & in-state tuition.
(i) Corzine sucked up bigtime and REFUSED to enforce current immigration laws
(j)Corzine formed a Blue Ribbon committee of latinos and other hypenates who were using tax dollars to mine votes for Corzine.
(k) Also sucking up to illegals was Democrat US Sen Robert Menendez, a Spanish-speaking Corzine campaigner.
(l)Corzine appointed latinos to the Supreme Court and to other high profile state jobs.
(m) The crooked NJ Democrat Machine was also running at warp speed.
The New Jersey race was considered a "squeaker" that would go on till all hours. But two hours after the polls closed, the Repub was declared the winner with a comfortable 4-point margin.
Other pertinent facts:
>> Incumbent Dem Jon Corzine (the wealthy loser) outspent the Repub winner Chris Chirstie about 4-1.
>> New Jersey has a huge Democratic registration.
>> Corzine bragged he had 20,000 paid union helpers on the ground election day to get out the vote.
>> There was a third party candidate siphoning off Republican votes.
>> Corzine had the power of incumbency.
>> Corzine had the power of a crooked Democrat Machine cooking the vote.
>> Ohaha hid $17.5 BILLION stimlulus in New Jersey.....for Corzine's reelection campaign.
And still Corzine lost.
==========================================
Ohaha is smoking something illegal if he thinks Americans will become accustomed to Third World mob rule---just on his say-so. If any state was ripe for an illegal takeover, it was the recent NJ race for governor.
The Republican Lieutenant Governor candidate who won, a County Sheriff, was lacerated by latino groups. She had applied for the federal 287(g) program, to question every inmate coming to the County jail about his/her immigration status, regardless of the offense for which they are incarcerated. The Sheriff had sought to ensure that "criminals" are not unduly released for fear of further harm to the community. The 287(g) program would provide the Sheriff with personnel and tools to punish individuals being held at the County jail (this was in contrast to the criteria set forth by candidate Corzine). illegals. Illegals lacerated the Sheriff for political pandering and for scouting incidents of indictable offenses such as driving under the influence by undocumented immigrants.
NEW JERSEY IS IDENTITY FRAUD CENTRAL FOR LATINO IDENTITY FRAUD
Two Texans busted in bogus ID operation in NJ ----NORTH BERGEN, NJ -- July 21, 2006 -- Pelcastre brothers, Angel and Jorge, Dallas, Texas, were a walking threat to US national security, expert document forgers who, for a few thousand dollars, could give anyone a new identity, authorities said. The Texas brothers turned a NJ hotel room into a business office and were readying a massive cache of fake Social Security cards for delivery to a local NJ identity broker.
The Texas brothers were a "one-stop shop" for a myriad of fake US documents, including birth certificates, Social Security cards, driver's licenses for any state in the US, passports and resident alien cards, said state police. Officers happened upon two cars bearing Texas plates in a NJ hotel parking lot. Authorities wouldn't identify the NJ hotel by name for fear it would spark retribution. The Drug Interdiction Task Force, regularly runs checks.
The Texas brothers were followed to a NJ office supply store nearby where they purchased computer supplies. Officers then followed the Texans to a NJ storage facility in Secaucus, NJ, where the Texans loaded several boxes into a car. One of them stood lookout. Authorities approached the Texas brothers when they returned to the NJ hotel and questioned them separately. The Texas brothers consented to a search.
Police recovered laminating sheets with built-in security features, pages of blank documents waiting for fake names and information, finished documents, computers and software to create the fake IDs. All told, the haul was worth about $500,000 on the street. Police also recovered $6,000 in cash, which was the first payment from a NJ fake document broker for a shipment of 500 Social Security cards.
We need to be careful about taking the current political conditions and applying it to “What if McCain...” . Most of the political backlash against Obama and democrats is because McCain lost. If McCain had won you would be seeing republicans really attacking one another as he cut deals with democrats and as republicans were blamed for coming years of unemployment and deficits. You would see protests against republicans for shipping our jobs overseas.
Remember back about 14 months ago when McCain suspended his campaign to get TARP1 passed? Remember a few brave house republicans (and a few liberals) holding out against the MSM, GWB, democrat party, by holding up TARP1? And what does McCain do?? Does he show leadership and bravery and act like a real Maverick?? No! Like the cowardly rat he was he snuck in and voted FOR TARP1 without even giving a speech one way or the other. At the same time Obama also voted for TARP1 and gave a speech about how this is proof that Republicans/Bush economy failed. Then McCain complained about TARP1 campaigning (FNC Cavuto called him out on this.)
Imagine if McCain separated himself from Bush and Obama and pointed out how they were the same, Socialists, big government big debt corporatists. Imagine if he had a spine.
November 2008 was NOT about Obama, it was about republicans. Let's make sure it doesn't happen again for a LONG time.
McCain may have been right about not changing the Senate rules on filibusters, I am watching this one closely.
We have a serious problem. We have a democrat party that is a complete nightmare. But we also have a republican party whose only argument is “We are not democrats” . And that argument doesn't sell well if republicans are in charge.
The "admitted socialist", Sen. Bernie Sanders, is from Vermont.
A careful examination of 1992, 2006 and 2008 leads to the inescapable conclusion that Democrats don't win elections, Republicans lose them.
Thank you.
And 2010 will be about democrats, fine. But what will we make 2012 about? How about Republicans stand FOR something?How about Republicans giving people some hope? Remember Reagan?
That tells me the minimum vote margin to ensure a rat election loss. I have no doubt there were fake ballots ready to go, but they underestimated and were caught short. I can't conceive of any other reason for Corzine to toss in the towel so quickly.
Good points. The margin of victory was much higher---but massive voter fraud skewed the results. Wealthy Corzine bragged he had 20,000 paid union workers on the street to "get out the vote" (make that manufacture the vote). He had the power of incumbency and outspent the Repub 4-1.
I also think Corzine threw in the towel early to suckup to the winner---a savvy US prosecutor---to hopefully ward off investigations into massive govt fraud by the Dems.
Obama ads for Corzine blanketed the pricey NY media markets.....they ran constantly. As the article showed----Obama's toxicity could not be overcome.
Amen.
I really hated McC as a candidate, but this article does not take into account that one year ago Bush's unpopularity was going to cost McC a lot of votes even if he had not been so kind to Oba Mao.
It's in our hands to dictate the terms.
HOLD CANDIDATES' FEET TO THE FIRE ---- PASS THE WORD: To tea partiers, 9/12 marchers, pro-lifers; defense of marriage, 2nd amendment, anti ObamaCare, anti-amnesty, anti cap/trade conservatives.
These are the terms under which we conservatives permit candidates to earn our support:
(1) Your conservative group holds an official position within the campaign;
(2) Your group's issue is affirmed in the candidate's platform;
(3) Your group is in attendance at all campaign strategy meetings;
(4) Your group holds a paid job in the campaign;
(5) Your group holds a paid position in the winning candidate's elective office.
(6) The candidate must renounce RINOS and pukeneos before he/she gets conservative endorsement.
Birth certificates?
Imagine that!
McC was a singularly inept candidate, aligned with a bunch of screwups.
AS FREEPER TADSLOS COGENTLY POSTED: "People forget that candy-ass Bill Kristol, and his crony, metro-sexual Brooks are the original makeover artists for McCain post-2000. They were McC's original groomers and media switch operators.....and they were obsessed with religious cleansing of the party and kicking conservatives to the curb.
Kristol was at his smirkiest---urging McCain to fire his 2008 staff, to start all over at the 11th hour, as McC's numbers tanked. Shows how how ill-conceived, advised, equipped and poorly managed McC's campaign was. But then, what else to expect from a Republican candidate made up of neopunks Kristol and Brooks."
Watching Kristol smirking and squirming in his Fox seat election night as McC lost was a consolation prize to a losing 2008 election cycle (that the neopukes themselves precipitated).

So how do minimum wage lawn mowers and hamburger flippers walk around with thousands of dollars to buy several false identities?
Good points all, sols.
Plus McC's "big tent" positions threw cold water on what was left of conservative fire in 2008. I was not going to vote for anyone for POTUS until Oba Mao kept repeating he would stop weapons research.
I agree with your post, but my point is that poll measurements of the effects of McC's "big tent" positions are difficult, because a lot of people really wanted to vote against GWB's party.
Either lord McCain is a complete idiot or he is a two-timing political playboy. After all he was all for cooling down this earth with the enslaving legislation of 'cap -n- trade. I just can't wait for him to start using Sarah's words "DRILL -baby- DRILL" s/
