“Together, Rizo and Montealegre received a majority of the popular vote. But Ortega received 38 percent, which was enough to make him president.”
Are you listening, Lou Dobbs?

Evidently the nicaragauns wanted to be crushed. They voted this asswipe back into office after having gotten rid of him before.

Six magistrates made the decision to let Ortega seek reelection. And guess what? All six were Sandinista appointees--even though the court's six-member constitutional panel includes three Liberal magistrates. Those three Liberal judges were not summoned to the meeting at which the decision was made. Instead, the Sandinistas called in three "replacement" judges to guarantee their preferred ruling. Gee, I wonder how long it is before we see this sort of tactic in the USA?

As the poorest country in Central America, Nicaragua may seem insignificant to U.S. interests. That's because it is insignificant to US interests.

It is a FARCE to say that policymakers are “distracted by Honduras.” Nonsense. They are trying to install Communist despots in both countries. They’re just doing better in Nicaragua.
I recall the old days when Reagan was trying to support the Contras in Nicaragua against this same Communist gang. Even back then, NPR cheered for the Communists, and the Democrats in congress cut off funding for the Contras.
The Democrats just love Communist dictators everywhere, but especially in Latin America.
