Obama ready to announce Afghan troops surge
The Australian ^ | November 25, 2009

BARACK Obama is just days away from committing up to 35,000 additional US troops to the war in Afghanistan as part of a revitalised military strategy against the Taliban.

The US President was understood to be close to a final decision last night on the details of an Afghanistan surge in the new year, following a meeting of his war cabinet at the White House.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said: "After completing a rigorous final meeting, President Obama has the information he wants and needs to make his decision and he will announce that decision within days."

Military sources believe Mr Obama has settled on sending between 32,000 and 35,000 extra US troops to join 68,000 already committed to the eight-year conflict.

~35,000 more troops for a conflict deemed to be unwinnable?

BHO has got to be kidding me. The occupation of Afghanistan is lost. We have no choice but to withdraw.

There is one thing that the MSM keeps secret from the American public regarding the occupation of Afghanistan: It's to protect the opium fields and trade routes, so the globalist elite and their Al-CIA-da can make big bucks out of selling them.

Another thing: The restrictive Type I ROE issued by BHO is an indicator that he is covertly propping up the Taliban without the knowledge of the U.S. and NATO troops deployed there. It shows how much Obama's foreign advisor, ZB (you know who he is, he's the same foreign advisor under the Jimmah Cartah administration), is willing to destabilize the region for the construction of an oil pipeline.

My FRiends, please DO NOT lambast me as a defeatist, or a traitor, because I am just telling the TRUTH.

Why send more troops to a conflict that the globalist elite would not let us win?

Afghanistan is indeed Vietnam II.

Guess the big O figures less troops = less military to deal with when he executes the big takeover. I have no idea why he is doing this. He’s made it very apparent he doesnt want us winning in Afghanistan. It cant be a political move, he’s never given a crap, since taking office, what the people think. This troop boost, pisses off his radical terrorist buddies I’m sure. Not sure what the end game is, although curious as to what his exit strategy is.

Will they now have a mission or just provide more targets for the Taliban? Is the ‘bama reconsidering his plan not to win? Will the ROE’s still hogtie our troops, requiring them not to defend themselves? Will he give us an estimate of how many more of our boys will providing him photo ops in their coffins? Will anyone in the White House press corps ask these questions?

You can bet that Obama will include an exit strategy to placate his base. If the exit strategy contains a date certain, the Reps should condemn it because it amounts to a surrender.

...to show he’s being doing his homework

...those meetings were not for him, they were for his CZARS and accomplices. The gang needed time to pull off the Asian trip, which was another nonproductive dud. The bowing failure can't street talk his way out of a paper bag when he leaves this country...watch for a scaled back agenda as far as trips to friendly countries. TOTUS is developing air sickness

Its not the size of the dogs in the fight- it’s the size of the fight in the dogs

bamster better dam-sure DECIDE and articulate that he is in this “war” to defeat a defined ENEMY and the cause is worthy of the loss of one more 18 year old US troop, someone elses’ son

otherwise, may all those extra dogs fight to save themselves and their friends long enough to limp back home again and fight again someday under the command of a better leader and a better man (or woman)

I just saw the breaking news on this. The WH announced that he will be announcing his decision on Dec. 1.

The inexperienced traitor MAY give them barely enough troops.
At this stage I wish he would pull all of them out; as half-ass and special ROE and orders for our troops to read miranda rights to the enemy, are not acceptable.

>>>Don’t do it HALFASSED. Give the general the troops he wants instead of this middle of the road BS

That’s right. Did we not learn our lesson with Bush and Iraq. In 2003, had he chosen to listen to his generals instaed of the politicans, we might be out of Iraq already.

“Something on the order of several hundred thousand soldiers, are probably, you know, a figure that would be required. We’re talking about post-hostilities control over a piece of geography that’s fairly significant with the kinds of ethnic tensions that could lead to other problems. And so, it takes significant ground force presence to maintain safe and secure environment to ensure that the people are fed, that water is distributed, all the normal responsibilities that go along with administering a situation like this. - General Shinseki, February 25, 2003

“There has been a good deal of comment — some of it quite outlandish — about what our postwar requirements might be in Iraq. Some of the higher end predictions we have been hearing recently, such as the notion that it will take several hundred thousand U.S. troops to provide stability in post-Saddam Iraq, are wildly off the mark. It is hard to conceive that it would take more forces to provide stability in post-Saddam Iraq than it would take to conduct the war itself and to secure the surrender of Saddam’s security forces and his army — hard to imagine.” - Paul Wolfowitz, February 27, 2003

“My belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators” – Dick Cheney, March 16, 2003

“Well, the Office of Management and Budget, has come up come up with a number that’s something under $50 billion for the cost. How much of that would be the U.S. burden, and how much would be other countries, is an open question “– Donald Rumsfeld, January 19, 2003

“”There’s a lot of money to pay for this. It doesn’t have to be U.S. taxpayer money. We are dealing with a country that can really finance its own reconstruction, and relatively soon.” - Paul Wolfowitz, March 27, 2003

Nice to see he was so nonchalant about the need for the troops when everything else has been a mad rush. A show of incompetence for all to see. The damage is done and ironic that Palin just slammed the hell out of him last night on this dithering.
