A Republican political hopeful interested in serving as governor of Massachusetts announced Monday he has chosen Richard R. Tisei, an openly gay state legislator, to be his running mate in the 2010 gubernatorial election.
"Want you to be the first to know: I've chosen State Senator Richard Tisei as my running mate," Republican Charles Baker wrote on his Twitter account. "Excited about this team."
In the photo at left, Baker stands to the left of Tisei outside the civic center in Wakefield, Mass.
Baker is the former CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and a former adviser to two Republican governors. He has known Tisei for years, the Boston Globe reports, and Tisei's years in the state legislature will make up for Baker's limited political experience.
Tisei, who the Globe called an "only-in-Massachusetts character," publicly disclosed his sexuality to the newspaper last week, though it was widely known.
"It is not exactly a news flash," he said. "I don't think people really care these days."
Tisei played a key role in retaining marriage equality in Massachusetts. In 1986 he told the Globe, "I broke people's preconceived notions about what a Republican is... We have to go on breaking the stereotypes."

“Gentlemen...this party needs an enema”
I won’t be voting for Baker.
“Baker stands to the left of Tisei”
Said it all for me.
Maybe they can get Adam Lambert to campaign for them.
Not surprising. Mass Republicans are the ones who voted for Romney and his pro gay agenda.
Nothing, they have learned. /yoda
First stop on Sarah Palin’s 2010 Chicken Dinner Circuit!
(/sarc)
But seriously, it’s probably the only kind of ticket that can win in the People’s Commonwealth.
Best,
Chris
My grandmother and aunt lived in Wakefield most of their lives. They were both Republicans and both liked Tisei. I can only wonder what they would think of this disclosure.
Frankly I don’t give a damn whether someone is homo or hetero and I don’t think anyone else should either.
It’s all about the issues! But I don’t live in Mass (thank God!) and I would think a true conservative would have no chance in Hades with that brainwashed bunch up there.
Barney is delighted.

I thought stereotypes were bad and always wrong?
Funny, I know nearly all of the “Republican Stereotypes” are and none of them are capable of being broken by someone who plays in fecal matter. A s*#@ lover. Deny it all you want, that is what they are and what they do.
Imagine if people other than homosexuals announced their sexual proclivities. “Politician announces his favorite position is (insert sexual position here).” We’d all think he was crazy...
hey look... RINO * 2
>Frankly I dont give a damn whether someone is homo or hetero and I dont think anyone else should either.
Uh no.
Frankly, I do give a damn and I think everyone else should as well.
Also, I have no control over what Republicans in another state do with their votes. They are free to choose whomever they want to represent them. I, on the other hand, will do everything I can to prevent my money from funding the campaign of RINO’s in other states. That is why I give my out of state money directly to candidates or conservative organizations like Club for Growth.
I am not going to complain about what Massachusetts Republicans do or don’t do. They are free (for now anyway) to choose whom they want. Just don’t whine to me and expect the federal government to bail your ass out when your state government fails.
I’m glad it matters to me whether or not you play in fecal matter or if you’re many times more likely to be a carrier of disease. Its cool you don’t mind the whole anal sex/disease vector thing though.
Would you give a damn if your male child’s baby sitter was a male homosexual? Or would you still be cool with it?
Gentlemen...this party needs an enema
I hope they lose.
I’m with you. I’ll judge someone by the issues.
It’s Massachusetts.
