It's no secret to students that coed dorms are more fun than same-sex dorms. But they can also fuel very unhealthy behavior that might otherwise be moderated.
A new study finds university students in coed housing are 2.5 times more likely to binge drink every week. And no surprise, they're also likely to have more sexual partners, the study found. Also, pornography use was higher among students in coed dorms.
Some 90 percent of U.S. college dorms are now coed.

There is some implied junk science here, suggesting that the coed dorms are the cause of the behavior, when like it is that those who are partiers tend not to pick same sex dorms, or colleges with lots of same sex dorms.
How much, did we taxpayers pony up, to hear this?????????
I hope this “study” wasn’t funded by US Taxpayer Dollars.
This is what passes for “higher education” these days.
And how many minors are in these college dorms?
Either we treat adults like children and then expect them to behave as adults, or we allow them to make mistakes and accept the consequences of being adults.
We all make mistakes, but we learn from them. Experience is a cruel teacher, for she gives the test first and teaches us from our mistakes.
Lived in a co-ed dorm my sophomore year - best year I had in college.
Kids in dorms are typically 18-20 years old. I can tell you the age of the kids fuel sex and drinking and I do not even need to do a study.
Lots of sex and drinking when I was in college, and we didn’t have coed dorms back then.
Even my old college, Texas A&M, has lots of co-ed dorms.
I think that is the case with most public universities. Most people cannot afford tuition at a private university.
I’m glad they came out with the study.
I have a high schooler, and I would love the trend to go back to single-sex dorms.
We had so much fun, got degrees, and grew up without addictions, riots, or STD’s. We had good times and bad, but we were free, independent, and preparing to take on the world.
I'm really tired of catering to these whining, narcissistic little sh--s.
i want to go back to college...
I was in a coed dorm but we were separated by floor.

90% of dorms are Co-Ed. You have to make a specific choice to be in a non-coed dorm. Kids who don’t want to have sex, and don’t want to party, make that choice.
The co-ed dorm probably doesn’t prompt the sex and parties.
Put a bunch of 19 year olds together in a big building with nearly no supervision and then have the nerve to act surprised that this goes on.
They are partially are. Make it easier for college kids to have sex and party, many are going to have sex and party. Those that might not have get pressured into in many cases. And, the dorms are a miserable place for those want to do neither.
