understandable....military is suppose to remain nonpolitical.

But it isn't in fact... Note that Fort Hood's restrictions for her forthcoming visit are far looser than at Fort Bragg.

I also read in another thread that the CO's billet at Bragg is currently open, and that a scramble among the local brass is underway to fill it. I have no doubt that this is part of the jockeying.

I'm curious as to what kind of secret orders have gone out to the troops concerning Sarah's visit...

The Army is completely political. They have Mohammedan clerics give speeches here at Fort Benning. Affirmative Action is dominant. Other authors would not be so restricted.

Exactly.
If Palin can use an Army base for a political speech, so can Biden, Pelosi, et al.

Now, it’s granted that a president’s speech will automatically have political undertones, as it’s impossible not to. But, inviting someone to explicitly make a political speech is another thing.

You’d have to be crazy not to understand where The Army is coming from, even after the Hasan disaster.

The Army is making this Political. They are making an issue where none exists, unless they subscribe with the Obama Doctrine of silencing any potential critics before they open their mouths.

How ironic that someone promoting the American Values of Freedom and Patriotism with our Troops is now Persona Non Grata.

If President G.W. Bush visits Fort Bragg when his book comes out, will the Army tell him what he can say and do while he is there? I think not...

This is nothing but the usual PC crap that got fourteen people murdered in cold blood.

This isn’t political ~ she’s going as a private citizen. I for one, even if my husband was still active duty, would be pretty upset if I couldn’t get a personalized note from Sarah in my book!

It’s no different than allowing members of congress to travel to a war zone, make speeches and take photos with the troops IMHO.

Supposed to remain non-political, although they certainly didn’t went Chuck Norris spoke at West Point. Cadets reaction is awesome.

Then they shouldn't have allowed her on the base.

So, if Vince Flynn comes to a military post, he should be similarly restricted. After all, both Flynn & Palin are private citizens hocking their wares.

Then why no personal notes in the books for each person? Is that political too?

I understand no speeches on base, but no personalized notes while signing a book is absolute bullshit. I smell JAG.
