When Meb Keflezighi finished the New York City Marathon in two hours, nine minutes and 15 seconds the morning after Halloween, he became the first American to win the race in 27 years. But some spectators apparently missed the three red letters on his chest as he burst through the tape. Keflezighi is only "technically American," argued CNBC sports writer Darren Rovell. He's "like a ringer who you hire to work a couple hours at your office so that you can win the executive softball league."
Though Mr. Rovell has since backtracked, nobody recalls similar comments about Alberto Salazar, the Cuban-born American who won in 1982. And if Meb's name was Joe Smith and he was born in England rather than Eritrea, few would have questioned his national identity.

What an inspirational story of doing your best with humility and grace.
Perhaps he could be persuaded to run for elective office.
It’s cool to be Anti-American Americans. The ONLY non-immigrants are Native Americans, truth be told, and some say they migrated across the Bering Straight.
I saw him run in the NYC marathon this year from the sideline and you could see how proud he was running with the “USA” emblazened on the front of his shirt. He was beaming with pride along the entire course. And when he crossed the finish line, the first thing he did was point to the “USA” on his shirt.
Either they migrated over the Bering Straight, or everybody else did. If the whole human race has the same origin, then it must also have the same origin point, from which the race spread out.
That’s a great story! He more American then the majority of our elected officials.

Meb was the ONLY top American to wear USA on his jersey instead of his sponsors name! As he himself said, he was proud to represent his country. He is a class act.
So, unless the Garden of Eden was in North America, we are ALL immigrants and, by this guy’s analysis, ineligible to be considered an American winner of a marathon or any other event.
