Bill Moyers to Leave Weekly Television

The PBS mainstay Bill Moyers, left, said he was retiring from weekly television and would end his Friday night public affairs show, Bill Moyers Journal, on April 30, 2010. That date will also be the last for Now on PBS, which has been canceled. Mr. Moyers said he had been planning for some time to retire the program on Dec. 25 but was asked by PBS to raise the funds to continue through April, which he did. I am 75 years old, he said of the decision to end the series, which began in April 2007. The program has recently been having a good run of it, he added in a telephone interview on Friday, so I feel its time. He said he was not quitting television work although he had no new projects planned. Now began in January 2002 and was originally hosted by Mr. Moyers. John Siceloff, the executive producer, said the program, currently hosted by David Brancaccio, has been a unique voice at a time when outlets for insightful journalism are diminishing. He added, Were all looking for places to continue that work. PBS said in a statement that it was in the middle of a review and reinvention of its news and public affairs programming and would announce plans for its lineup in January.

As with most 'progressives', no real reason why. (Try - "Cause the hippie generation is over. It's time to move on.")
Very left.
Charlie Rose deserves all the plaudits Moyers gets.
75 years old. I didn’t think he was that old.......
These guys sure don’t like to hang it up.
What a loss!
First Oprah, now Moyers. With the swelling of the conservative movement as seen from the Tea Party activity, conservative books filling the #1 spots, Fox News dominating cable, and of course AM talk radio, maybe they just see the handwriting on the wall.
2010 is going to be an interesting (but tiring) year!
Didn’t he already quit once and then came back? Liberals are like herpes....they never really go away.
Isn’t O opening up her own network? Isn’t she one of the wealthiest women in the country. I’b be careful about writing obituaries so quickly.
Time for another broken down old liberal to retire. So long comrade.
Isnt he the homo-hating, drunk driving liberal that works for PBS?
LOL...
Moyers was part of the LBJ administration. That's how long this guy has been sponging off the taxpayers.
Three quarters of the people alive probably never heard of LBJ. Is that a a rapper?
LOL...Future tagline material. So true!
Bill Moyers is one of the oldest and worst of the leftists.
I would disagree about Oprah Winfrey. She is not politically sophisticated, but for the most part she has stood for traditional Christian values, with the proviso that she knows she has to avoid turning off the leftists who control the media.
It was a big shift for her when she jumped in the tank for Obama, and I think she did so not because she supports Communists, but because he is (half) black and she rather naively got taken in by his promise to bring an end to divisiveness and racism.
His real intention was just the opposite, as most of us saw before he was elected. Oprah was fooled and, like most other blacks, thought she saw a way to advance her people.
Her viewer numbers have been tanking this year, and I think that’s the reason. Because many fairly conservative women used to watch her show, and were turned off by her one-sided endorsement of Obama.
After 8 years of solid conservative bashing, Moyers can’t bear to see the monster he has helped create go down in flames.
Hey Bill, If you liked the health care bill - you’ll love cap and trade. ;o)
Cheney/Cheney ‘12!
I know. True American history is not taught in schools. My kids come home with school assignments about obscure cultural "hereos" like Harriet Tubman or some other wretched black nobody slave from the South. But nothing about the Presidents, the Revolutionary War, WW1 or WWII, Thomas Edison, or even more recent American history like the moon landings.
Yep, all history started with O’s birth in a manger somewhere unknown, before 3+ terrorists found him
and raised him on their milk.
