For years, anything connected with Times Warner, I considered to be the enemy...Time Magazine, Warner Brothers, People Magazine, Madonna, Ted Turner, CNN, & HBO...everything, except AOL before Steve left and one little effort out of a zillion titled Band Of Brothers.

Last night, thanks to netflix, I watched a film I had never heard of.....if it was as if it had been deliberately hidden from the world.....

The film was titled “Taking Chance”.

I don't know how this HBO film got the green light.......but whoever was responsible for getting it done deserves to honored. I know, I know, there will those that will tear it apart for various reasons that only the know it alls will be able to see....but I was moved....deeply moved.....and inspired...All true Freepers should rent this movie asap....the rest should just continue posting their mole crap and keep on giving their 12 year old cohorts high fives.

Often I wish I lived in Texas. Here in Eugene, Oregon the bureaucrats, in doing the bidding of the politicians, just would not be able to get the permit processed in time, or there would be an exorbitant fee for traffic direction and the disruption to the community. They would remind everyone about the sign regulations which determine when there is an illegal display of the American flag.

These are not imagined slights on my part, but actual ways in which Eugene has comprehensively reacted to veterans, including parades and guard units. Our current mayor, Kitty Percy, her first year was able to find time in her schedule to play a part in the Vagina Chronicles at the University of Oregon, but was unable to fit in an appearance at any Veterans’ Day event.

Hefner was a Marine: He served, knowing what danger he might face, and paid the ultimate price. He took on a lot of things that comfortable, bored young men his age would run from in a heartbeat.

Kind of makes bitching and complaining about a temporary lack of creature comforts or having to wait more than five minutes for anything seem juvenile and silly, doesn't it?
