A healthcare policy expert says there are details in the Senate healthcare bill that will frighten everyone.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) has unveiled his more than 2,000-page healthcare bill with an estimated price tag of $849 billion. However, as Grace Marie Turner of the Galen Institute points out, one of the reasons the bill was scored under President Obama's $900 billion cost goal is because no one gets any benefit from the program until 2014.
"So they start collecting taxes and fees now, and...the first ten years of full implementation of this bill is $2.5 trillion, and that's only the beginning," Turner explains. "So this does not in any way...meet President Obama's budget specification. And there are all sorts of tricks that they have pulled in this bill to try to pretend that it's deficit-neutral."
Grace-Marie Turner (Galen Institute)Turner says although the bill is a "carefully crafted" document designed to garner as close to 60 votes as Senator Reid can, it contains lots of new taxes and $500 billion in cuts to Medicare.

They have misunderestimated the American people. They have reassured themselves that we are not the majority and that they can steamroll us without consequence.
They are so very wrong. Besides, only about a third of the colonists supported the methods and direction of the Revolution in the mid 1770s. We are larger than that.
And all hell will break loose after the first shot is fired. And it is damn close.
That remains to be seen. They are sure as hell going to ram this down our throats and besides FR, nobody will do anything. I understand your anger but you have too much faith in the general public.
No revolution will happen until enough of the people have little or nothing left to lose.
BINGO FRiend! I have 3 young boys who keep me on the right side of the law. For now, we can still save the country with a last stand in the 2010 elections and need not talk of doing anything rash. If the R’s campaign on the promise of rolling this back they will win landslides and mandates that forever end this debate. If it isn’t fully active until 2014 then it can certainly be destroyed by Congress and the veto-proof majority that Zerobama will hand the country in 2012.
We have seen the ultimate deception in action all week.
The reason for all the new, relaxed “guidelines” for mammography, PAP tests, etc. is so the CBO numbers crunchers can lower the projected cost of “health care reform,” thereby providing cover and/or making it palatable for some congressional fence-sitters.
It’s all about faking the numbers.
And the country will be a politically violent place for a generation.
