Britains Hadley Climate Research Unit, University of East Anglia, suffered a data breach in recent days when a hacker apparently broke into their system and made away with thousands of emails and documents. The stolen data was then posted to a Russian server and has quickly made the rounds among climate skeptics. The documents within the archive, if proven to be authentic, would at best be embarrassing for many prominent climate researchers and at worst, damning.

From Kevin Trenberth: The fact is that we cant account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we cant. The CERES data published in the August BAMS 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming: but the data are surely wrong. Our observing system is inadequate.

Yes, science at its finest: "When the data don't fit our theories, it's surely the DATA which are wrong!"

Another tidbit from the
earlier thread:
I may have inadvertently had a hand in this millennium graph! I recall getting a fax from Jack with a hand-drawn graph, that he asked me to review. Where he got his version from, I don't know. I think I scribbled out part of the line and amended it in some way, but have no recollection of exactly what I did to it. And whether he edited it further, I don't know. But as it was purely schematic (& appears to go through ~1950) perhaps it's not so bad. I note, however, that in the more colourful version of the much embellished graph that Stefan circulated ([1]
http://www.politicallyincorrect.de/2006/11/klimakatastrophe_was_ist_wirkl_1.html the end-point has been changed to 2000, which puts quite a different spin on things. They also seem to have fabricated a scale for the purported temperature changes. In any case, the graph has no objective basis whatsoever; it is purely a "visual guess" at what happened, like something we might sketch on a napkin at a party for some overly persistent inquisitor..... (so make sure you don't leave such things on the table...).

Dear Ray, Mike and Malcolm,
Once Tims got a diagram here well send that either later today or first thing tomorrow. Ive just completed Mikes Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd [sic] from1961 for Keiths
to hide the decline. Mikes series got the annual land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999 for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.
Thanks for the comments, Ray.
Cheers, Phil

This is huge, it really is and it confirms what anthropogenic global warming skeptic have suspected all along. It's clear that global warming alarmists sure like fudge! :-)

%*&!!##&% hackers! Criminals, I tell you...
You could probably hack the email of any department in any University whose work has a political component or implication and find the same damning, down to the bone evidence.

but the data are surely wrong I've been predicting that as the present stagnant/cooling temps continue they'll become desperate enough that they'll "discover" the data is wrong and we've really been warming the last decade after all.
I doubt this will fly because it will defy what people are seeing. I've had most of my yard covered with global warming for over a week now, which is early for our neck of the woods.
