I took two semesters of geology in college and am somewhat well-read yet despite encountering evidence of evolution over possibly infinite time, never came across any discussion of Creation except here.

You asked and that's the digest version of why I believe the universe is infinitely old and evolution as a continuing project of God’s. Have read this thread with difficulty; there’s a load of passion to sort through.

Searched Creationism and found a half dozen theories so I haven’t gotten through them yet, .

Ok, it would be absurd to MOST people to claim that the Pope was not a Christian was was going to hell, for either acceptance of a scientific theory OR for his Catholic theology.

For a zealot who plays the ‘who is REALLY a Christian and who do I want to send to HELL!’ I suppose it isn't absurd at all to claim that the Pope is not a Christian and is going to Hell.

But for most REASONABLE people, it sounds absurd on its face that a man who devoted his life to the Church and to Biblical scholarship, isn't a “real” Christian.

But you see I don't play those ‘who is REALLY a Christian’ games. Thus your confusion when I was speaking about the history of Christianity.

When I speak of the ancient world where for over a thousand years the vast majority of Christians were either Roman or Byzantine Catholic, I am NOT speaking of who were necessarily a “good” Christian or who was “really” a Christian; I am speaking of the people who identified as Christian.

When I say that America is some 70-80% Christian, do you truly believe I am making a statement as to the state of their salvation or what they truly hold in their hearts (which none but God and they could know)?

And did you think for a single second about the absurdity of your argument? I point out that through most of the Christian era the vast majority of Christians were either Byzantine or Roman Catholic - and your refutation of that is ‘how do i know if they are REALLY Christian?’????

Uh, because we are counting people who when you ask them say they are Christian; unlike you I don't have a “go to hellometer” that I gleefully apply to any creeds whose theology I find objectionable.

All I wanted to know is why you think evolution is a continuing project of God’s.

That's irrelevant. The Pharisees devoted their life to the law and look what Jesus had to say about them and to them.

Devoting your life to the church, religion, or God, doesn't mean that one is a Christian.

When I say that America is some 70-80% Christian, do you truly believe I am making a statement as to the state of their salvation or what they truly hold in their hearts (which none but God and they could know)?

Then why do you say that they are Christian?

Jesus laid out the criteria. If you don't like it, take it up with Him. My pointing out what He said is not me making the determination.

Many people claim Christianity because they are not muslim, Jewish, or atheist.

Because I believe in God and I believe in evolution and I believe in infinity. I believe that God is infinite and infinity is too complex for anyone but Him to understand and He in His infinte wisdom wouldn't write a textbook to the Jews back then.

I believe that terra firma doesn't have a religion and that many religions preceded Christianity and many others serve people concurrently today.

-[[I believe the Bible just fine, thanks for asking.]]

Not so much- you’ve proven that tiem and time again

[[That so many have such hatred in their hearts for this difference in belief that they condemn the Pope to Hell,]]

Lol- you really don’t get it- We aren’t condemning anyone silly rabbit, and you’re intentionally misrepresnting our position- per usual

Tell ya what AM- instead of yammering on and on about how evil True Christians are- how abotu you attempt to back up the doctrines of the Catholic Church with hte bible- for isntance, show us where infant baptism means the person is saved, where Mary is the ‘queen of heaven’, where the bible tells us to pray to saints- on and on it goes. enough with the whining about what true Christians beleive- present somethign useful for a change

So once again it is “you ain’t a true Christian”

The POPE is not a true question.

I AM HOLIER THAN THE POPE!

WORSHIP ME! AND MY INFALIBILITY IN BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION.

No thanks.

excellent point, and very apropoe to the issue- unfortunately, AM will never see the distinction between a true Christian and someoen who simply calls themselves one without ever having accepted Christ as savior as the bible tells us we must in order to be saved

[[Sure, me and the Pope, we think God is a liar]]

do you think the word of God is the Holy Spirit inspired word of God? Or do you think it’s simply a collection of ‘good advice’ by ‘wise men’ about ‘how to live’? Do you htink the scenes i nthe bible were actual scenes of history? Or do you think they were fairy tales meant for instruction? Do you beleive Christ was the Son of God who died o nthe cross and rose fro mthe dead? Or do you think a ‘wise man who did good deeds’ was put to death, and his body hid to look like he had risen fro mthe dead? Do you beleive God made Adam and Eve fro mthe dust of the Ground, fully formed, and breathed life into their nostrils? Or do you doubt God’s word, and htink soemthign esle? Do you beleive Christ performed the miracles that He did? Or do you think there was mass hysteria and peopel were just tricked into seeing somethign that didn’t really happen?

Let’s get specific here-

“My question is to anyone, really. Why can’t you be devout in your religion AND believe in evolution?” [excerpt]
For me personally, its not about religion but rather a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

What I believe (accept on faith) is [short version] that Christ died for my sins, was raised up on the third day, and that the bible is the inspired and preserved Word of God.

The reason I don't believe in Darwinian Evolution is because a) I've never seen it empirically demonstrated, b) my salvation does not depend on it, and c) it contradicts God's Word. (disclosure: I am a YEC)

The truth is, science shouldn't be about accepting on faith, someone else's interpretation of evidence.

One of your previous comments...
“Why do you feel that it is necessary to give naturalistic explanations for the wondrous events described in the Bible? I’m curious why you search for naturalistic explanations for these events rather than accept them as signs from God?”
A good question for an Evolutionist to answer perhaps?

Anyway, if you're going to spend any time on these threads, I highly recommend the following items:
Used in conjunction, they can make for an educational and interesting read.

YMMV.

You won’t change my mind and I’ve no intention of changing yours. Just as millions have read Old Testament and learned various truths, it’s open for interpretation.

We can argue but the anger in this thread made it hard to read.

How does your relationship with Jesus tell you that God of the Jewish/Christian Bible created all the universe? You deliberately devalue all other religions, even those who worship the same God? Do I understant that right?

The bottom line is, whether they're lying or telling the truth, they're going to deny that they lie.

That is not what is at issue here .... Creationists are 'liars' is the accusation, and what is the evidence a Creationists knows for a fact they lie. And you have what it takes to 'judge' what they will do?

So far, that question has been treated as an opportunity to accuse "the evo's" of lying, rather than an exercise in reasoning.

Oh, so some are more equal than the rest?

“You won’t change my mind” [excerpt]
My only intent was to answer your question[s] ;-)

“Just as millions have read Old Testament and learned various truths, it’s open for interpretation.” [excerpt]
What I personally try to do is understand it [OT and NT] in the original context [and sometimes language] of what the person who recorded it understood it to mean. (ie, exegesis)

“We can argue but the anger in this thread made it hard to read.” [excerpt]
Doesn't sound particularly pleasant IMHO.

“How does your relationship with Jesus tell you that God of the Jewish/Christian Bible created all the universe?” [excerpt]
I have faith in God's Word as revealed in the scriptures. (John 1:3, Colossians 1:16, etc)

“You deliberately devalue all other religions, even those who worship the same God? Do I understant that right?” [excerpt]
I guess I see it as those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, versus those who have not.

Religions/denominations notwithstanding.

If you are asking if I believe there is only one way to God, then the answer is yes. (John 14:6, Acts 4:12)
