GENEVA – Islamic nations are mounting a campaign for an international treaty to protect religious symbols and beliefs from mockery — essentially, a ban on blasphemy.

Such a ban would face great resistance in Western nations ..
The countries that form the 56-member Organization of the Islamic Conference are currently lobbying a Geneva-based U.N. committee to accept its plan, ..
If that occurs, Muslim countries and their allies in the developing world would stand a decent chance of mustering the simple majority needed in the General Assembly to adopt such a treaty.

I’m going to assume here that the muslims will determine the definition of “blasphemy”. Fat chance anyone in the western world will listen to them. The UN can suck hind tit for all I’m concerned.
I would like to see this get laughed out of the UN in Christian nations did try this. But Christian nations are, by and large, free nations and have no need for such BS.
Besides, do you think Muslim nations would respect a ban on the mockery of Christianity?
And...will there be sactions against countries that don’t prosecute artists that publish pictures of Mohaamed wearing a bomb on his head?

Actaully, many Western countries are already prohibiting [via self-censorship] blasphemy — against Islam. Christianity and Judaism are still fair game.
There will be no equivalents of a crucifix soaking in urine, the Virgin Mary covered in dung directed toward Islam being displayed in Western art galleries anytime soon, I promise you.
The way this could be nipped in the bud is to add language to the effect that Islam should have special protections, because it is a weak religion, its followers are prone to desert it if they hear things that are critical of it, and that Muslim women will no longer respect Muslim men.
There is no God called “Allah” and Mohammed was a false prophet! Allahu fubar!
