The Senate voted to end debate and move to a final vote on President Obama’s first judicial nominee, former ACORN fundraiser Judge David F. Hamilton, who disallowed invoking Jesus' name in prayers in the Indiana Legislature. Ten Republicans voted to allow a floor vote on Hamilton's nomination, thus assuring his confirmation.
Hamilton, nominated to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, won a 70-29 cloture vote. All 29 who voted against cloture were Republicans. while 10 Republicans joined with all 60 Senate Democrats to vote for cloture and allow the confirmation vote to proceed. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchiso (R.-Tex.) did not vote on the cloture motion.
The 10 Republicans who joined the majority Democrats in voting for cloture were Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), Susan Collins (R-Me.), John Cornyn (R-Tex.), Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Olympia Snow (R-Me.), John Thune (R-S.D.) and Richard Lugar (R-Ind.).

There are still some Republicans who will vote to confirm anything a Dim president puts up for the court, under the simplistic, almost child-like notion that every president has a right to pick his own court nominees.
The problem with that is, the Dims don’t agree and have blocked many qualified Republican nominees. These Republicans just play into the Dims hands and give them the advantage in the courts over the long run.

What is going on with the Texas Senators??? Very disappointing.
Insofar as the judiciary has been thoroughly politicized and it is now obvious to anyone paying even marginal attention that judges routinely take it upon themselves to usurp both legislative and executive powers it should be pretty #@%&!!@# obvious that judicial appointments are a matter of policy and not merely deference to presidential prerogatives.
I can only assume that the Republicans voting for cloture either agree with the policy preferences of this administration or that they are too dense to understand the true consequences of their actions and are therefore NOT QUALIFIED to hold any position of power or responsibility. Indeed because these federal appointments are for life the influence of these judges can extend over decades creating precedents that other activist judges use to build an entire body of law with the express purpose of achieving unassailable policy changes that would never pass a legislature. It is this kind of voting practice that exposes these “conservatives” to be nothing more than go-along-to-get-along politicians and these are the people who, more than anyone else, have contributed to the decline of the republic. They just don’t give a damn and so long as they feel secure in their positions they are fine with just about anything the government does. Fools like these disgust me.

My thoughts too. I think it is high time for GOP County groups in Indiana to begin censuring Lugar the same way SC counties are doing to Graham.
That would be my guess. I swear I'm so sick of craven, feckless, stupid GOP cretins I could scream. We'd be better off electing chimpanzees.

I hope EVERY ONE contacted their Representatives and told them to OPPOSE this nominee, who deems it’s NOT o.k. to pray in Jesus’ name, but is in Allah’s!

No sheet! The R's (even when in the majority) have NEVER learned the art of "fighting" for what is right while the Demo-Rats use every dirty trick and underhanded tactic known to man--its in their DNA!
You would think after years, (NAY, DECADES) of being beat about the head and shoulders, they would get sick and tired of being used as "door mats," but noooooooo, they keep engaging in what Einstein argued was the definition of insanity--doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different outcome.
That plus the fact that very FEW actually having a "pair!"
What's worse, some of them volunteer to be doormats, then brag about it. More than once I've heard Orin Hatch brag about how he and Slick Willy set the example for working together on SCOTUS nominees when they agreed upon an excellent nominee: Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Some of those older guys will just have to be replaced. They'll never learn to fight Dim nominees the way the Dims fight Republican nominees.
Of course she didn't, she is running for Governor in Texas.
Cheney endorsed her and now she has to appear conservative.

I'm aware of that. Are you predicting that the confirmation vote will be any different? Will some Republican who voted against a filibuster now take the disgustingly phony position of voting against Hamilton's confirmation?
