(D-SC) Clyburn: Not so fast on second stimulus
The Hill ^ | 11/18/2009 | Michael O'Brien

The number-three Democrat in the House on Wednesday threw cold water on the idea of a second, jobs-focused stimulus.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said that the party may not pursue specific legislation to accomplish their goals on employment, and might focus instead on front-loading spending in bills Democrats had previously planned to move.

"Now we are trying to get the economy stabilized and grow the economy," Clyburn said during an interview on MSNBC. "And that's what we're trying to do as we move forward, is to move in regular order."

"I don't think we need to do anything new, I don't think we need to do another stimulus package -- all we need to do is move in regular order and do what we need to do for the country," Clyburn added.

While I agree with Clyburn that a second porkulus bill is unnecessary, I don't agree with him on what to do. Rather than moving in "regular order" they just need to sit down and SHUT UP.

My father, who was an actuary for many years, has written on using exponential solutions to solve exponential problems. He addresses the Stimulus package in Chapter 4 of an online book he has published. It is available here.

Based on this, I think Stimulus II is a bad idea because it won't solve the problem and will just put us deeper in debt.

The book is collaborative so if any of you have any thoughts, he is using Sidewiki to incorporate reader comments.

Why do they want a second stim when they’ve only spent less than 20% of the first one? And it’s going to take another year or two to get rid of the rest.

He's a liar. The Democrats are going to expand spending in stages rather than all at once. They're trying to avoid a moving target and still have the government micro-manage the economy.

I agree with no new stimulus bill. But doing what they’ve been doing since taking over the majority in 2006 isn’t working, obviously.

If they want to help the employment situation, lower the payroll tax. Most dollar efficient way to do it.

The “stimulus” was massive amounts of money spent on democrat special interests and cronies. Least dollar efficient way to boost the economy. And most of it is being spent far too late anyway, with an eye towards helping them in the 2010 election instead of helping america now

This reminds me of how doctors used to bleed patients to get the disease out. And then when it didn’t work and got worse, the doctor decided the patient needed more bleeding.

How about an immediate payroll federal tax holiday for one year?

No federal taxes for one year in paychecks. After healthcare, disability, long term disability are taken out of weekly paychecks THEN Uncle Sam grabs atleast $300 more.

IT IS A HELL OF A SIGHT BETTER THAN the very fraud that IRS workers/and many people themselves caused taking the $7K housing credit.

WHAT part of, if the person did not have a MORTGAGE COMPANY SEND THE TAXES INFO. to the IRS- on the person THAN maybe JUST freaking maybe they don’t own a house; red flag did they not understand?

How about ending welfare and giving EVERYONE on it now 6 months to go take the jobs at the county employment service I don’t qualify for because I am not a minority. This will save money.

How about NOT taxing what Obama defines as wealthy because THEY ARE THE ONES THAT OWN THE BUSINESS THAT PRODUCE JOBS?

How about not spending a zillion dollars on stupid crap like endangered species? REMEMBER the basic food chain democrats; before human beings are endangered and all living in the poor house not qualified for welfare!
