This is just insane! We have millions out of work and that treasonous outfit GE is going to have a joint venture with the Chinese to build railways in the United States? How about a joint venture with Americans? That puke Immelt is a sleazy snake.

General Electric Co. (GE) and China's Ministry of Railways signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) Tuesday, committing to jointly pursue partnership opportunities for high-speed rail projects in the US.

What imbecility. If the Kenyan Clown felt obligated to make a deal with somebody on this (and it's a very good assumption that this MOU was signed as a direct result of Obama's current visit to Red China), he should have at least signed with the Japanese who started this whole business of high speed train service with their shinkansen back in the early 1960s, and not the dangerous and shoddy Chicoms.

Do you think this is a viable prospect for the private market? Passenger rail has not been profitable for some time . . . if ever. Wish it were otherwise.

The simple fact is that a high speed rail system has to be constructed on American soil and with American labor. The technical components may well be manufactured in China. But, that is not a lot different than a multitude of other products.

The idea of constructing a high speed rail system, much like the interstate system is very appealing. The politician or political party, in the mode of Eisenhower and his Interstate highway system, could inspire a generation of optimists with the Kennedy zeal of going to the moon, could run on a platform of a jobs creator; reducing the need for airport expansion; a delay of interstate expansions; and an overall convenience for the American traveler. It will get great resistance from the airlines sector. Another downside would be the potential for union growth and government control. All in all, I would like to board a train downtown and get transported downtown, 300 miles away, in two hours.
