This is mind blowing ignorance on the part of Al Gore. Gore in an 11/12/09 interview on NBC’s tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, speaking on geothermal energy, champion of slide show science, can’t even get the temperature of earth’s mantle right, claiming “several million degrees” at “2 kilometers or so down”. Oh, and the “crust of the earth is hot” too.

You know, everyone makes mistakes. But this is like say someone telling you that it is 345 Thousand miles from Atlanta to New York. Someone who knows anything would know this is not a reasonable figure.

In the Balance, Earth Mantle temperature is 1400-3000° C. Maybe he was thinking of a different scale, (2552-5432° Fahrenheit) or absolute temperature (1673- 3273° Kelvin or 3011-5891° Rankine). No, that doesn't work.

Hmmm... Did Al Gore confuse the Earth and Sun again? Sun Surface temperature, 6,000° C! But the Sun core temperature is 15,000,000° C, several million degrees! Al Gore confused the Earth with the Sun!

Also, we have drilled deeper on earth. We have NOT drilled deeper on the sun.
