Dobbs Won't Rule Out Senate Bid
November 17, 2009 9:28 AM

Former CNN pundit Lou Dobbs could be contemplating a run for public office in his native NJ, he told Bill O'Reilly 11/17.

In Dobbs' first interview since abruptly leaving his television show last week, he refused to rule out the idea of running for Senate.

"A lot of things are on my mind. I'm not going to be coy about this," Dobbs said, when asked if he was considering a bid. "I can guarantee you 100 percent -- I'm going to remain in the -- in the public arena. These issues that matter so much to me, many of the same that matter to you, are not -- not changing. What is immutable here is, I'm going to remain in the public arena."

Sen. Bob Menendez (D) would face voters in '12, while Sen. Frank Lautenberg's (D) seat comes open in '14. Dobbs lives on a 300-acre farm in the northern part of the state.

It's not the first time Dobbs' name has been mentioned for public office: Last year, he was rumored to be contemplating a bid against Gov. Jon Corzine (D). GOP fundraisers were discussing the possibility of a Dobbs candidacy as late as last June, but he eventually pulled the plug.

Will be tough for him because NJ has a lot of legal immigrants and Lou Dobbs has opposed legal immigration too.

Lou is a very good guy. He walked away from about $9 million in his final year contract if he kept his mouth shut on illegal immigration and the birth certificate. He chose to speak the truth and to speak out.

If Lou Dobbs would run as a conservative he might have a chance. If he runs as a RINO he has no chance. Good luck Lou.

The breaking point may have been when he endorsed a radical Ron Paulite foreign policy of bringing home ALL the troops from overseas.

The last Republican elected to the Senate from New Jersey was uber-RINO Clifford Case, who won his first Senate election at a time when my father was delivering the Sun Sentinel on his Schwinn. I don’t see Dobbs doing any better or worse than such illustrious candidates as Pete Dawkins, Chuck Haytayan, Doug Forrester, or Kean the Younger.

As of 2000, NJ had the wealthiest foreign-born population in the United States, thanks to the large population of affluent Koreans, East Indians, Russians, etc. The East Indians were the key reason Christie won heavily Democratic Middlesex County.

I really don't see Dobbs getting more than the 42% that recent GOP Senate candidates have been getting in NJ. Menendez will clean his clock, and Lautenberg will get his zombie/walking dead bretheren to the polls in droves.

How do you know this? I am curious because this is the first time I heard this. However, I would think this is expected behavior because most people from India except for the Muslims are pro-free-market.

Yep...third party material.

A friend of mine showed me the precinct map. The biggest swings from 2008 to 2009 were in Edison Township, Iselin CDP (SErn section of Woodbridge Township), and South Brunswick. As anyone who lives (and works, in my case) knows, this is the Route 1/27 "Curry Corridor."

Most Indians in these areas are Hindus or Sikhs. The Pakis and Indian Muslims seem to prefer Queens or Brooklyn, although there is a Pakistani-dominated mosque right on Route One in South Brunswick.

Its amazing how the area (especially Edison and Iselin) went from being the land of bowling alleys and teamster windbreakers, to Little India, in less than a generation. The shift from heavy industry to higher skilled labor at pharmaceutical and back office financial companies are responsible more than anything else.

Why do you conclude that? Ron Paul typically gets 70 percent in the GOP primary.

Because he represents—more or less—the Buchanan wing of the party.

True enough...when the dead vote Democrat here, at least they are voting for one of their own when they flip the lever for Lautenberg.

I recently saw a movie called “Zombieland” (better than it sounds), and, in the climactic scene at the amusement park, one of the lead zombies bears an uncanny resemblance to the Louse. It thought it was nice that they decided to offer FL a cameo at his age.

No, Jim, I believe you’re mistaken on his opposition to legal immagration.

I listended to Lou frequently and he repeatedly mentioned that he was opposed to the uncontrolled manner of foreign nationals without legal documentation fooding into this nation through open borders. And it isn’t just Hispanics, either. He mentioned people from Asia, Africa, the Carribean area, and eastern Europe and the Middle East who come here illegally.

Incidentally, Lou’s wife is ethnically Hispanic. He is NO racist!

I don’t think he is a racist and that is not what I meant. What happened was that he did not distinguish the computer programmers from China, Russia and India and lumped them together along with the illegals from Mexico. This had a lot of Russians, Chinese and Indians fuming. All I am saying is that if he wants to run for office from NJ, he needs to work on that and win over this constituency. A whole lot of them who work in NYC live in NJ.

I happen to know a lot of people who have worked in hi-tech jobs who’ve been replaced by imported techies. Frankly, I think it is unfair to lay off Americans and replace them with greencard workers. I suspect this has had a lot to do with wrecking our economy.

It happened to my brother-in-law; his former employer had to hire two Asians to do the same amount of work BIL did OR they were payed one hell’uva lot less (probably the latter.) Either way, BIL never did get another job that paid as well.

Just say’n.
