The absentee votes have to be mailed by a certain date - they also have to be received by a certain date which is Monday AFTER the election on Tuesday.

We are now a week AFTER that date - I think SEIU folks are on the clock with all the breaks...that’s why it’s taking so long!

There’ll be a 537 vote difference....or less.

That has been changed in a federal law that was recently enacted which happened to be sponsored by Schulmer. It lenghtening the time by one week to allow for overseas ballots to be recieved via mail. That needed to be done to give the military a better shot at getting their votes counted. This is the first election in NY after that change thus the longer lead time on getting the final count in. I can’t give you detail specifics but that is the way I remember reading about the changed law.
