Hoffman 'unconcedes' in N.Y.-23 House race By Jordan Fabian - 11/16/09 06:34 PM ET

Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman has "unconceded" in New York's special House election after reports that the vote margin between him and Rep. Bill Owens (D) has narrowed.

Hoffman conceded the race on Election Night after learning he trailed Owens by 5,335 votes. But the Syracuse Post-Standard reported last week that the margin had shrunk to 3,026 votes after recanvassing.

Hoffman appeared on conservative commenatator Glenn Beck's radio show this afternoon. Beck asked the him if he would "unconcede."

"Yes, if I knew this information at the election night, I would not have conceded," Hoffman said. Beck asked him again if he was "uncondeding" and Hoffman replied "If that’s possible, yes."

Officials in the upstate New York district are still counting over 10,000 absentee ballots, which also had Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava's name on them. Scozzafava dropped out of the race three days before election day citing poor fundraising and polling returns. She then backed Owens.

I think SEIU folks are on the clock with all the breaks...that’s why it’s taking so long!

Have the SEIU ballot forgers gone on strike? Live by the union, die by the union.

I wish him sell. But Hoffman would have to win around 65% of the uncounted votes, and that sounds unlikely.

Why not? Gore did it.

Exactly!

Owens broke several campaign promises immediately upon being sworn in. Publicizing this voting irregularity over the next ten months should kill his career even if Hoffman is not the “revised” winner.

BTW Democrats don't have much to complain about “un-conceeding” after “Snippy” Gore's exchange with George W Bush.

That’s an idea! Can we just canvass the Republican districts and have Freepers do the counting?

Exactly! And to paraphrase Stalin: “it’s who counts the votes”.

“We as conservatives are not wired to fight the kind of dirty war as the left does.”

The way we do it at our house is say: I'm playing like I'm a Democrat...when I ran that stop sign, or when I left that seat belt undone etc. Al Gore gave the nation fits when he unconceded the Presidential election, so I hope Hoffman does the same to NY23. Of course he'll lose as we all know Dems just count and count until they “find” the necessary number of votes.

A new and previously uncounted bag of D votes were last seen headed to NY from parts unknown.

How they got away, no one know!

LOL

What could be taking so long? 10,000 votes isn’t hard to count.

Something fishy here....

The absentee votes have to be mailed by a certain date - they also have to be received by a certain date which is Monday AFTER the election on Tuesday.

That has been changed in a federal law that was recently enacted which happened to be sponsored by Schulmer. It lenghtening the time by one week to allow for overseas ballots to be recieved via mail. That needed to be done to give the military a better shot at getting their votes counted. This is the first election in NY after that change thus the longer lead time on getting the final count in. I can’t give you detail specifics but that is the way I remember reading about the changed law.

WOW, I hope that he will win in the final count. That would be excellent news.

Not really. It probably will take on a few hours at the most for each county to count their absentee ballots. Today was the final day for ballots to be recieved via mail. Then it becomes a scheduling process of getting the election workers back together to do the counting, reconciling, etc. I think I read where Hoffman said it should be completed by Thursday.

And the odds that the democrats won't pull another MN and cheat their candidate into office through recount shenanigans is about zero.

Pelosi isn’t giving up Owens. Hoffman lost when he conceded. He should have waited for the absentee votes to come in. Owens now has the illusion of being a Congressman. He has voted yes on the healthcare bill. If the votes come out favoring Hoffman, the House will take it under consideration and determine that Owens isn’t going anywhere. There is a precedent. Check out Indiana Bloody Eighth, 1984.

“I for one cannot lie but EVERY liberal I know does.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Mostly they don’t really lie, you have to have some concept of what the truth is before you can lie, it is more like just spouting nonsense with no idea at all of whether it makes sense. True liberals are always capable of believing two mutually exclusive things at once, they do it effortlessly because they live in some kind of wonderland where the mad hatter is considered a genius and any normal human being (like Sarah Palin or Jim Demint) is a radical extremist who is incapable of coherent thought.

NEVER DOUBT, NEVER FORGET, LIBERALISM IS A MENTAL DISORDER.
