Hoffman 'unconcedes' in N.Y.-23 House race By Jordan Fabian - 11/16/09 06:34 PM ET

Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman has "unconceded" in New York's special House election after reports that the vote margin between him and Rep. Bill Owens (D) has narrowed.

Hoffman conceded the race on Election Night after learning he trailed Owens by 5,335 votes. But the Syracuse Post-Standard reported last week that the margin had shrunk to 3,026 votes after recanvassing.

Hoffman appeared on conservative commenatator Glenn Beck's radio show this afternoon. Beck asked the him if he would "unconcede."

"Yes, if I knew this information at the election night, I would not have conceded," Hoffman said. Beck asked him again if he was "uncondeding" and Hoffman replied "If that’s possible, yes."

Officials in the upstate New York district are still counting over 10,000 absentee ballots, which also had Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava's name on them. Scozzafava dropped out of the race three days before election day citing poor fundraising and polling returns. She then backed Owens.

We as conservatives are not wired to fight the kind of dirty war as the left does.

That's because most conservatives have other things to do with their lives if they lose an election, and don't see politics as a career anyway.

Most liberals, on the other hand, wouldn't even be employable if it weren't for such "opportunities" as politics, the legal industry, and public education.

In NY, what do they do with absent votes for Dede Scozzafava?

You know darn well had Scsi been the Dem nominee who dropped out due to tons of support for a liberal third party candidate, it would have been claimed that "voter intent" was to support whichever liberal remained in the race and votes would be assigned as such.

Doug Hoffman has "unconceded"

Is that anything like 'de-gifting'?

I think that potentially we are in for a long slow fight of attrition, but it will be their attrition, not ours.
Just looking at the myriad destructive uses to which BOTH the upcoming trials of Major Hasan and KSM will be put, they want to provoke a ‘radical’ response from us.THey want to goad us into a kind of action that they are just salivating to put down, they want us to live up to the distorted and downright overwrought and cynically dishonest assessment of us as the REAL threat for domestic terrorism as it was suggested in that leaked document from Janet Napolitano.WE know how both these trials will be played out, sometime in the possibly distant future, what the potential is for either of them unleashing a new spate of domestic AND global terrorist attacks, kidnappings, hostage-takings, beheadings,
but of course we don’t dare act pre-emptively: we’re expected to sit back and watch this whole new outrage lurch forward, defining itself over many months if not years, as if THIS is the way to deal with Islamic Terrorism. I don’t see us doing that. But I do think that smarter course of action for us would be to very carefully watch the Obama/Holder strategy and start answering it in all its details. The WORST thing to do is to do all this beseeching, this special pleading, this polite approach where we beg “Mr. President” and “Mr. Attorney General” to do the right thing, please, and not have the KSM trial here, in NYC.
I think we are WAY past that point: they have spoken and declared their intentions in no uncertain terms: let their decisions take on a life of their own, attain critical mass, THEN nail them. NO BEGGING!!

It is just not possible for me to drag myself down to their level, or fight on their terms

And I can see why - you start out w/a defeatist attitude! Roll up those sleeves and come out swinging in 'your' war against any evil thing! You fight your war, not their's!

Fighting on our terms certainly seems to throw them off their game.

Is Owens actually a member of the House of Representatives? He has not been certified by the Sec’y of State of New York.

If Pelosi can choose Owens over Hoffman, even if Hoffman ends up with more votes...

then Pelosi can just go around the country choosing the winner in EVERY election!

Please, don’t anybody tell Pelosi about this power of hers!

State has not certified a victor, Pelosi does not trump the vote in NY-23.

I don't think Hoffman knew that the 10,000 military votes weren't in yet when he conceded. (I THINK) the 1st he heard of that was from Beck, and had just heard of the 2K spread as well (he looked a bit flabbergasted).

I'm a bit confused on that, but suspect the Frisco Bimbo tried to get a concession before the military had it's say so.

It sure wouldn't be the 1st time the Dhingis have deliberatly disenfranchised our Defenders.

1) monitors with camcorders and extra batteries watching polling booths all day
2) all counting done on video
3) lawyers on call in close districts, ready to sue
4) “muscle” on site to make sure shennanegans don’t happen

We must make it harder to cheat.

Just keep ticking the electorate of the 23rd off. Owens has to run in 10 short months. Does Hoffman want a rematch?
