Vivid has announced that it has the tapes in its possession, and TMZ has published a letter from Vivid chair Steve Hirsch to Prejean's lawyers seeking the right to distribute "erotic footage that Carrie Prejean, former Miss California, produced for her boyfriend following their four (4) day rendezvous in February 2007."

This is an announcement, a claim that Vivid has something in their possession. For all any of us know, they could have someone who is a look-a-like doing a homemade movie just to drag this girl through even more mud. And even if it is authentic, she still has the right to make a better person of herself. Maybe Dr. Laura can chime in here on that one...

No, the point is that she then tried to cash in on her 15 minutes of fame by writing a book, doing the talk show circuits, etc. If you're going to go that route, you better be prepared for the blowback. She had skeletons in her closet which would show up her continued moralizing stance as hypocritical, and that's what happened. Too bad for her, but she knew those sex tapes existed, and she should have considered the likelihood that they would emerge.
Meanwhile, this is a very clever ploy by TMZ and Vivid. Technically they are not revealing the existence of the tapes to harm her reputation, nor are they threatening to release the tapes without her permission. They are instead offering her a lucrative business deal. Whether she accepts, rejects, or ignores it, the damage to her is done, and it's all perfectly legal.

Good thing videos were less common when I younger.
I thought I knew what I was doing at 19. I was hedonistic, and the future held nothing but more pleasure and fun. Thank God no one has pictures, but I have had to answer some tough questions, and have to live with having hurt people. I’m forgiven, but still have to deal with consequences.
I hope this girl (that’s what she is, if not legally) can show the world that she regrets her mistake and has repented, and somehow turns this into a “don’t do what I did, get closer to God” campaign.
I taught our son, who made his decision for Christ at age 14, that upon Adam and Eve being banished from the garden, woman was given such strong sexual desire that she would cave in to the man despite the impending extreme discomfort that would result. Therefore, the man, being the spiritual leader of his household, (that would be any relationship with girls) is responsible for her chastity.
I’m realistic that girls must also put the utmost effort into maintaining their purity. As a youth leader in our church years ago, I pressed the issue, and encouraged all the teens to not allow themselves the privacy that can lead to tragedy.
Too much in this society, the girl is a “tramp” if she gives in to the “stud”. Right is wrong, and wrong is right.
