Hot Button: Palinmania

Republican 2008 vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's highly anticipated book tour kicks off Monday afternoon with the airing of her wide-ranging chat with talk show queen Oprah Winfrey.

(snip)

Although the 418-page best-seller doesn't come out until Tuesday, the Associated Press already has obtained a copy and assigned 11 reporters to comb through it to publish a pre-emptive "fact check" that has outraged her supporters because several items in it relied more on analysis than black-and-white facts.

For example, one of the "fact check" items criticized Mrs. Palin for writing in the book that she was driven by "purpose" rather than "ambition." The AP, oddly, concluded the book proves otherwise because it "has all the characteristics of a pre-campaign manifesto, the requisite autobiography of the future candidate."

(snip)

Newsweek is also getting in the game, previewing its Nov. 23 cover, which quickly reignited the debate of sexism in the media.

Its editors chose a photo of Mrs. Palin taken for "Runner's World," showing her wearing athletic shorts that display the avid runner's toned legs. Although such a photo makes sense for a workout magazine, the connection isn't obvious with Newsweek's dismal, political headline: "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Sarah? She's bad news for the GOP -- and for everyone else, too."

Several photos taken for Runner's World show Mrs. Palin stretching in various poses, and they're available on its Web site, but Newsweek chose the one that shows off her legs the most.

Some conservative media watchers have compared the Newsweek cover to others published by Time that featured a conservative with an unflattering photograph and a negative headline. Time's 1995 cover of Rush Limbaugh puffing a cigar asked, "Is Rush Limbaugh Good for America?" Its more recent cover with Glenn Beck sticking out his tongue ...

Although I am not 100% in the Palin column (not that I have anything bad to say, I just don't know enough one way or the other), the constant media assault on her is driving me in that direction.

When Newsweek refers to someone as a “problem’ it isn’t in the innocent vein as the nuns in “Sound of Music”; it’s in the tone of a mafia hit such as in the “Sopranos”. Newsweek is evil.

The NEWSWEAK feature will fail. The fact that they label her “bad news for the gop, and everyone else,” is probably not seen as a bad thing in a country where both parties are looked at with disdain. NEWSWEAK chose that particular picture for 2 reason: 1) help their lagging, sagging and dragging circulation, 2) to try and turn Palin into a sex symbol instead of a serious candidate. They are sure to sell several times their usual amount of magazines, just as TIME did when they put Palin on the cover a few months ago, and given the fact that the issue will be out during her book tour, it will drive up sales of her book, and increase turnout at her book signings. Not exactly what they had in mind.

Even Sarah and a team of Clydesdales is not enough to get me to watch Orca.

Before I can accurately comment I am afraid I am going to have to see the photo of her legs

Indeed. I’m waiting for Rush’s interview. And BOR has a three-part interview.

I have that edition of Runners World —Article on Sarah was very well done as was the one the did back in 2001 on Bush running marathons —they had a recent one on Gen Petraeus and his running —They always cover political runners strictly from a running perspective whatever their politics

Hear, hear!!!

I just cracked a new bottle of Crown Royal on Saturday and even finishing that in one sitting could not cause enough the dulling of my senses (and cut off my barf reflexes) to watch her royal pain in the arse.

I know Sarah's publicist probably made Sarah accept this and from initial reports it went well, but I'll wait for the facts to come out by reading what other Freepers have to say--who have a stronger stomach than I, or have latent, masochistic tendencies. lol

With all this “fact checking” Sara should be thoroughly vetted by the time she declares in 2011.

Too bad the LSM (Bunch of libtard boot lickers) couldn’t have done the same in the last election.

I’m thinking about how we all were supposed to swoon over Obama’s beach picture - but when Sarah poses for a running mag. looking durn good, that is supposed to be a bad thing?

The MSM and the RINO’s have had the long knives out in the last several days building up for the release of Palin’s book. She touches a nerve that few other political figures have for some time. The personal nature of the negative coverage exceeds that given to Bush or Cheney. I’ve never seen anything like this reaction.

Three things that I think drive them nuts are her strong stance on life issues, her common sense/conservative principles when it comes to policy, and most importantly, she took on obama and ridiculed him at the RNC last year. Noone had ridiculed him for his community organizer claims on his resume. Noone had officially made fun of his grandiose ego by pointing out the silliness of his “fake grek columns at his acceptance. Noone had dared look beyond his main sttribute as the first black presidential candidate to see the emptiness of his rhetoric, his lack of experience, or the danger in his positions.

She made fun of obama; she alinskied him. I don’t know if she’ll run as a candidate soon, but she has been very effective at drawing out all the politicians and pundits who hate/fear her more than they love their country. That is a very good thing in these dangerous times.

It’s the straight up nancy-boy BIGOT JON MEACHUM that wrote the piece of sh*t in newsweek. I wonder why posters just refer to the magazine name and not identify the BIGOT JON MEACHUM that wrote the column.

It’s actually Newsweak that’s bad for America. Unfortunately, some people still do read that rag. Less all the time though.

I saw that issue of Newsweek on the stand and looked at it.

I was shocked to see that the Newsweek edition was MAYBE 36 pages. I had not picked up a Newsweek magazine in several years and had no idea that it had shrunk so far. A page for Letters to the Editor, a few feature stories, a couple of opinion columns, and that's it.

While I was shocked at the reduction of the magazine, I was fully aware of the reasons......

Even if the Clydesdales are pulling a wagon full of Budweiser? You should at least check to see if it is the fat Orca or the not as fat Orca.
