Newsweek promotes Palin for President

The cover of next week’s Newsweek features a picture of Sarah Palin, along with the headline “How do you solve a problem like Sarah?” The cover is one more example of the periodical’s positioning itself as the ideas journal for people who think that the New York Times’ in-house editorials are middle-of-road, but have too many big words. And of the magazine’s cultural disconnect from much of the United States.

To wit: “How do you solve a problem like Maria?” is an early song in The Sound of Music, which won the 1965 Academy Award for Best Picture. In the song, several nuns at an abbey in the Austrian mountains summarize the problems with the novice Maria (Julie Andrews): Maria is too physically active, athletic and outdoorsy. She is too expressive emotionally, particularly about her happiness. She is flighty, and late for everything except meals. She has a good heart, but does not listen well to advice from her elders, and she is highly self-directed: “How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?” The harsh nun, Berthe, calls Maria “a headache” and “a demon.” Newsweek’s subhead take’s Berthe’s role, calling Palin “bad news for the GOP–and everyone else too.”

The Mother Superior knows better: Maria is no bad-news demon. Rather, Maria is someone who lives the Good News, and whose talents, energy, and will-power are going to waste in the abbey. So she ships Maria off to a job outside the abbey–a job for which Maria is totally unprepared, and a job at which Maria’s predecessors have failed. After a rough start, Maria becomes a great success, due to her common sense, kind heart, wisdom, and readiness to defy convention. In the process, Maria also stands up to foreign totalitarian aggressors (winning the support of even her staunch critic Berthe), fortifies the nationalist sentiments of her country against those aggressors, and leads the people in her care to safety and freedom.

Ergo, the question “How do you solve a problem like Sarah?’ provides its own answer, at least to people who know the film from which the song comes: Make her the President of the United States.

I’m not arguing for or against Palin for President–just observing that, as is so often the case, the Palin-hating media are less clever than they think, and end up inadvertently making her stronger.

The Lamestream Media abandoned any pretense of objectivity long, long, long ago. And yet they still dig themselves deeper down a geological fissure of bias!

I blame Bush. Prior to Bush the media at least pretend and the bias is subtle. After 8 years of Bush with no push back the media have found out what they could get way with and now, they show no pretense at all

The MSM’s extreme leftist bias and use of character asassination was evident already against Reagan and especially Nixon. It’s not really new. With Bush and particularly Palin, they have however reached a new level of depravity, viciousness and crudeness. What’s new is that they go shamelessly after children and babies to pursue their agenda.

I just read AP’s so called “fact check” of Palin’s book. Man, they had to go through it with a fine tooth comb and most of the “disputed” facts they simply dance around. They’re “facts” on the “facts check” in most instances either confirm what she said or “imply” that she’s wrong. Idiots grabbing for straws.

I wonder why they never did a “fact check” on O’s bogus books. Probably because since he’d never done anything there were no “facts” to check.

Hey, those are the play clothes Sarah Maria made out of curtains. They look better than Michelle's kitchen curtain outfit.

I think this is hilarious. Newsweak (LOVE that!!) and the WaPo along with the Gnu Yak Timez are all heading down the toilet faster than they can tread water, financially. Good Americans are finally getting it, and they aren’t supporting these house organs anymore, because, financially, it just isn’t worth it.

Sound of Music is just such a chick movie....I got drug to see it in HS...by the girl I was dating in ‘65. This analogy is rough for me to take considering the movie and the source of the Article.

While I am denigrating movies from that era.....I need to include Dr. Zhivago...and they re-released Gone With the Wind from the 1930’s back in 65-66 and I got drug out to see both of those...I can't remember what movies I wanted to see that I drug my date to see....possibly A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966).

Now those were good movies...and ‘The Man With No Name’ is a better analogy to Sarah-Cuda, than a wannabe nun turned gold digger....

Newsweak magazine is doing something that’s completely understandable...

NBC and its offshoots have been so far up Obama’s @$$ for a very simple reason. The parent company, GE, stands to make a gazillion dollars from government contracts, and they know that in order to play, they have to give the thugocracy its tribute. So, Obama and co get to outsource the ministry of propaganda at no cost, knowing that should GE get burned, what are the so called “news sources” going to tell the public? “We’ve been lying to you in order for GE to make money, but we’re going to start telling the truth now...”

In the case of Newsweak, it’s a combination of the baldface hatred of capitalism, America, the Bush Administration, the American people, and anything traditional that the American people hold dear. We have seen that Newsweak has no problem running stories that are patently false without the slightest bit of fact checking, and then later on, running stories on the consequences of those stories... Oops! How many people were killed in riots after Newsweak ran the false story about korans being flushed down the toilets at Club Gitmo?

Newsweek is doing everything it can to align itself with the BDS, PDS, ADS/BAF (America Derangement Syndrome/Blame America First) crowd, to ensure that once the “media bailouts” begin, that Newsweak will be at the front of the line.

I have a friend who is both a staunch Democrat and a true believer in women’s lib (she is from the 60’s era). Her take on the last election is this:
1) Racism in America is no longer acceptable to the MSM
2) Based on what she observed with regards to Sarah Palin, sexism is perfectly acceptable.
Even as a lifetime Dem, she was smart enough to see Obama as the no-nothing that he is and to see Sarah as bright, articulate and well-informed. As Obama and this Congress poison America with their policies, hopefully other Dems will see the light.

Hillary doesn't seem to want the Republic destroyed. She just wants to rule it. zer0 is the one who wants American to be brought to her knees.

Don’t blame Bush. It was because Gore and the left tried to declare a win illegally that this happened resulting in 8 years of the biggest tantrum throwing by the left I have ever seen.

Sound of Music is my favorite movie. Fitting that Newsweek doesn’t even realize the weight of their metaphor.
