Father reunites with daughter after 30-year search

WASHINGTON — A Google search has reunited a father with the daughter he has been trying to track down for three decades.

April Antoniou, 30, of Newnan, Georgia, and her father, Scott Becker, of Wichita, Kansas, have been making the rounds of television news and talk shows since their Internet-aided reunion this month.

Antoniou and Becker told Atlanta television stations WGCL-TV and 11Alive they had been independently trying to find each other for years but with no success.

Antoniou said she had frequently turned to Google but had no luck because her father's name is relatively common and she knew very little about him.

But when she typed "Scott Robert Becker Looking for April" into the Google search box a few days ago it landed her on a website created by her father seven years ago -- www.aprilbecker.com -- where he had left a message:

"Dear April,

"When you read this, please send an email to: april@aprilbecker.com

"I'm your Dad and I would really like to talk to ya.

2 the weeks ago, I became aware of this very personal story listening to Dr Scott Becker on Allan Weiner's program on WBCQ.

Last night, listening to DR Becker on WBCQ was amazingly candid. He is awash with the goodfortune of it all as you can see here, at WBCQ Family story

Amazing that one of the true rebels of short wave pirate radio ended making contact on google

Sad to say but it’s possible that I have kids that I don’t even know about. I wasn’t always protected when younger and did do some one night stands, never seeing the girl again. It bothers me some but there’s nothing I can do about it now, except forgive myself and try not to dwell on it.

Think about it men, were you indiscreet when younger?

Scott was married.

It was the mother that that stole the child from his life
He forgives her, and the child seems to be forgiving her.

I just think its wonderful that they have reunited after 30 years

Scott was married.

I knew that, it just dredged up memories for me and possibly my comment was misplaced.

Nice story, but what is he a “doctor” of? You’d think that he would be relatively easy to locate if he were a medical doctor. Perhaps he is a PhD, which might be a little more difficult to locate. He does have a latter day hippie hair-do, something you might find on a professor more than in a medical setting.

I just think that it is amazing that after all these years of international pirate shortwave radio broadcasts....

Dr Becker made contact on google.

SW crosses all country’s and is an amazing thing, yet it was the internet that linked them up.

Then boom! Katie Couric and Oprah are calling

Its just interesting in that SW/AM/FM/TV/Cable/Internet/Satellite all seem to have limited audiences.

This post is an attempt to stimulate the idea of linking them

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RF_engineering

As you can see, Dr Becker kinda lives in a unique world.

Shunning the internet for radio propagation, but, he did set up few rudimentary web sites looking for April

You’d think that he would be relatively easy to locate if he were a medical doctor.

April apparently had no idea WHAT he did for a living, and she must have encountered a LOT of Scott Beckers in her search.

I'm thrilled they've been reunited.

What purpose did that post serve? It did nothing but air some personal issue that is really not fit for public consumption.

Ok. Found it.

RF Engineering, also known as Radio Frequency Engineering, is a subset of electrical engineering that deals with devices which are designed to operate in the Radio Frequency spectrum.
