That's quite a story. It's hard take seriously some of these reports, particularly given the timing of the Senate's imminent vote on health policy and the shaky statistics we've been getting from Washington.

I sometimes think it's the health bureaucrats who are most infected .... with an exaggerated sense of their own importance and power to influence behavior with policy driven announcements. Say, isn't Ukraine the country where the Russians poisoned the president, Viktor Yushchenko about five years ago?

I speak with friends over there weekly. They always have a bad flu season; due to hygene and eating habits primarily. This year seems to be worse as the government has closed down schools and universities, restricted travel and warned citizens not to congregate in crowded areas.

However, they are having fresh elections in December. Yanukovich appears to be leading, Yuschenko is effectively out of the race.Yulia Timoschenko may take the whole thing although she has a reputation for corruption that is pretty bad.
