A convicted killer has been found guilty of brutally raping a woman seven months after he was released from prison on parole.
Mark Shirley subjected his victim to degrading and humiliating abuse in a bid to re-enact a ritualistic murder he committed 22 years ago.
Shirley, 39, who was sentenced to life in 1987 but was later released on licence...
Shirley was convicted of murdering 67-year-old Mary Wainwright in Cardiff when he was 16.
He was found guilty at Cardiff Crown Court and handed a life sentence, but released after 16 years on parole in 2003. He was recalled to prison for excessive drinking but released again in August 2008.

I see that a life sentence means as much in the UK as it does here.

Psychopaths are never “rehabilitated”. The idea of prison as a place where criminals can be rehabilitated is naive at best, and dangerous in any case. Talk of “recidivism rates” is bunk. The “recidivism rate” among psychopaths is 100%. The figures that the government uses are only the ones who are CAUGHT committing the same crimes again and again. The only protection you have against psychopaths is to get away from them as quickly as possible.

You mean that letting a vicious killer out of prison was a bad idea?
huh.... who'da thunk?
Cant blame the parole board.....I bet thats the first time that happened. Usually letting criminals out early (after a pathetically weak sentence) works out great for all of society. right?

Until our society accepts the fact that most prisoners are a perpetual menace to society and starts mass executions for repeat offenders, pedophiles, rapists, and murderers, more innocent people are going to die at the hands of these criminals. I would like to see about half or more of the prison population exterminated. Mercy to criminals is cruelty to the innocent.

I'd rather like to see them all dumped in some place like the old Devil's Island - or on Alkatraz - just dump ‘em all together - all who commit violent crimes - and leave them to survive among themselves = the only guards, around the perimeter of the island to keep any from escaping.
Just drop off bales of food. They'd all be victims - of each other. A grown up Lord of the Flies society.
