EAST RUTHERFORD — A key lawmaker said the New Jersey Legislature might not vote on a bill to allow gay marriage before the current session ends in January.
State Sen. Paul Sarlo says he will not bring up the bill in the Judiciary Committee he chairs unless there are enough votes to pass it along to the whole Senate.
And the Bergen County Democrat said today that there currently are not enough votes.
Gay rights activists are pushing lawmakers to adopt a bill soon. Gov. Jon Corzine says he would sign legislation to allow same-sex unions.
But Gov.-elect Chris Christie said he would veto such a bill. He takes office Jan. 17.

I guess the former governor and his gay lover will be upset.
LOL.
This is good news. Thanks.
How does legalizing homosexual marriage help avoid New Jersey’s imminent financial train wreck?
What’s the status with NY? Patterson promised he’d sign a bill soon, was that just hot air from a loser?
If you marry them they will come from aLL OVER AND CAN BE TAXED.
The current governor also swings both ways.
New York is no :) the Legislature won’t take it up at all.
Hold the line, New Jersey!
“If you marry them they will come from aLL OVER AND CAN BE TAXED.”
Yes, history shows that societies with lots of homosexual behavior really thrive. /s
The New Jersey legislators, like those in New York, are thinking of their own political futures, and apparently those don’t coincide with the interests of the homosexual activists. The legislators know that if they vote FOR homosexual marriage, they’ll face the wrath of the voters, even in those two very liberal states.
That’s exactly why they’re not taking on this issue, voter anger is high.
