It's very nice, home of some great industry (Kodak, Bausch & Lomb, Xerox), fairly 'balanced' politically for New York State in the sense that Democrats don't run everything, currently a (D) mayor w/ a great Republican Monroe County Executive, Maggie Brooks (Rochester is in Monroe County). Good place to raise your kids.

Too much snow (100 plus inches per winter) which fosters creativity in business & education. Several good schools including the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology.

On the topic of extremist Muslims in the area, well, there's a nuclear plant 40 or 50 miles downwind, and there is one hell of a security breach named Lake Ontario just north of the city.
