Former President George W. Bush, outlining plans for a new public policy institute, on Thursday said America must fight the temptation to allow the federal government to take control of the private sector, declaring that too much government intervention will squelch economic recovery and expansion.

(snip)

In his speech, which set out his goals for a new policy institute focused on economic growth, education, human freedom and global health, Mr. Bush said he entered politics because "because I saw society drifting away from the values at the heart of the American Dream."

GWB is a mite late on this assertion, isn’t he?

I seem to recall that he started the ball rolling last fall.

Medicare Part D was no trip to Paris either.

Nice try, Mr. President.

But, at least he had the guts to kill people who wanted to kill us. And for that I thank him.

Talk about calling the kettle black. Let’s see:

1: Pushed continued deterioration of underwriting standards to expand home ownership.
2: Prescription Drug Plan
3: Bail outs including GM and Chrysler

Let's not forget McCain-Feingold. You know the bill he signed 'hoping' SCOTUS would over turn it.

Bush lost his moral authority when he supported the bank baiout and using the same tarp that was authorized for banks only to bailout gm (car company), which seem illegal to me

As opposed to BHO, a socialist totalitarian state was never Bush’s goal. I’d rather see him speak up late, than not at all. At this point, silence is complicity.

Agree with most of the posts here. Let’s hope we all done with anyone named Bush for national office.

Bush had a good heart, but a weak backbone at the end of his term. On the other hand, Obarfma has a black heart (not a racial comment!) and a gelatenous spine that requires daily injections of pablum and effluent to maintain acceptable appearance of posture.

There is a wide gulf separating 0 from W.

_____ _________ ________

I disagree. The Bushes have always been of the “one-world-government” mind.

If there's anything we've learned over the past 20 years, "speaking up" is not in a Bush's DNA.

Dubya, I voted for you twice, but please...just...go...away.

Mr. Bush did not cite his successor by name, but many of his warnings seemed directed at policies Mr. Obama has embraced.

Without a doubt — but George, you had TWO TERMS WITH TWO CONGRESSIONAL MAJORITIES where you could have put the Marxist liberals out of business. You did NOTHING. YOU DID NOT FIGHT.

You had your chance and you let America down. A bit late now to be philosophizing about what you SHOULD HAVE DONE.

I’d like to see what else he is going to say. Is this a one-time speech to open his policy institute, or the opening salvo? And will it encourage other “silent” conservatives and Repubs to speak up.
