WASHINGTON -- Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and four others accused in the attacks will be put on criminal trial in New York, Attorney General Eric Holder is expected to announce later Friday.

The decision, described by people familiar with the matter, is part of wider announcement planned on how to bring to justice detainees held at the Guantanamo Bay prison. It's the first set of decisions before a Monday deadline on how to deal with the more than 200 prisoners remaining at the facility, which President Barack Obama has ordered closed.

It shouldn’t be too bad a trip for Islam’s hero...he’s been offered Air Force One.

It is so frustrating that those trying to kill us get our rights they are trying to destroy.

This will lay our entire intelligence services wide open in discovery...and the security of an area just blocks from the WTC site...unbelievable...

Your Honor...my client has a right to be judged by a jury of his peers. We demand a change of venue to Dearborn where citizens sensitive to his life experience can render a finer judgement. Also, as an Obama appointee, you can surely appreciate the stress Mr. Mohammed has been under during his brutal incarceration...a dismissal of charges is a matter of social justice.

This is going to be a political disaster for the WH. Look for a change of venue (into 9th circus territory), and a long drawn out process. If the trial concludes with an acquittal (which I think is inevitable because the WH and AG want it that way) before Election Day— look out. Otherwise, the long trial with all motions to suppress evidence going in favor of the defense will leave the country in a foul mood. I don’t see this ending well for Obama, no matter how much he crows that “our system worked.”...

This is exactly what AQ was hoping for, and the retards in the White House seem more that happy to accommodate them. A nice, flashy circus of a trial for them to exploit.

As usual, you have to follow the money when trying to analyze the mystifying motives of the White House. Eric Holder’s law partners, Covington & Burling, represent approximately 20 Guantanamo detainees. Holder is now the administration’s chief authority on which detainees should be released, which will go before a tribunal, which will be tried in U.S. federal court. Holder is steering into civilian courts, cases in which government evidence may be barred. Once acquitted, these foreigners can sue their “oppressors” for huge damages. As head of Justice Holder can pressure generous settlements to the clients of his partners and other celebrity shysters. The logistic and security costs of these circuses to New York and U.S. taxpayers will be historic.

Every defense lawyer east of the Hudson River will be falling all over themselves to be the top guy to defend Ron Jeremy, I mean KSM.

You are correct. We are heading towards a bankrupt oblivion. As Rudyard Kipling said, "The odds are on the cheaper man".

Also, will the trials spur NYC to be again Isalmist targeted in a revengenge genocidal attack?

This is simply a really bad idea at a time we don't need more crises.

What good can come out of this, other than riches for high profile lawyers? What are we trying to prove? The world already knows we are stupid.

This will be a Woodstock for lawyers where the scum of the legal profession get to show off their plumage and defend the scum of the Jihadists. Lawyers will love 0bama for allowing them many “teachable moments” to educate the rabble about the majesty of liberal lawyerism

Security expenses will be astronomical in New York. All the media are going to be there making it a circus and the Jihadists on trial will be given a public platform to propagandize worldwide to Muslims

These trials should have held at Git’mo and if they had to be held here then in Montana far away from the media centers

Muslim 0bama is giving his fellow Muslims a huge opportunity to spread their filth and perverted ideology

PC says you’re not supposed to tell such deep truth: “Muslim 0bama is giving his fellow Muslims a huge opportunity to spread their filth and perverted ideology” ... you are right of course, but democrats will not tolerate such exposure for their obamessiah.

[What are we trying to prove?]

Among other things the White House wants graphic and detailed evidence of water-boarding made public. Dick Cheney revealed earlier this year that the U.S. water-boarded only five detainees but those five are the surviving 9/11 conspirators.

As you mention, these trials might be interrupted by a 9/11 replay. Imagine the detonation of a terrorist radiological bomb which would render the courthouse and a big portion of Manhattan radioactive for 40 years.

The White House knows all of this will backfire politically but Obama is on a mission—a mission from Hell.
