9/11 Mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to Be Tried in the City He Attacked, NYC

It could jeopardize counterterror programs and thereby endanger Americans, but who cares? "9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to go on trial in New York," from the Telegraph, November 13 (thanks to Anne Crockett):

President Barack Obama said the September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be put on trial in New York City. Speaking in Tokyo, Mr Obama said Mohammed, the self-proclaimed organiser of the al-Qaeda terrorist plot that killed almost 3,000 people in 2001, would face "exacting" US justice.

Bringing such notorious suspects to US soil to face trial would be a key step in Mr Obama's plan to close the US detention centre at Guantanamo Bay.

Mr Obama initially planned to close the centre at the US naval base on Cuba by Jan 22 next year, but his administration is no longer expected to meet that deadline.

It is also a major legal and political test of Mr Obama's overall approach to terrorism. If the case suffers legal setbacks, the administration will face second-guessing from those who never wanted it in a civilian courtroom.

Indeed.

The New York case may force the court system to confront a host of difficult legal issues surrounding counter-terrorism programmes begun after the 2001 attacks, including the harsh interrogation techniques once used on some of the suspects while in CIA custody. The most severe method - waterboarding, or simulated drowning - was used on Mohammed 183 times in 2003, before the practice was banned.... It's up to you, New York, New York!

Our MUSLIM-IN-CHIEF and his cohort Eric Holder will REGRET this decision !!

I have to believe the three ring circus will BACKFIRE IN THEIR POLICITAL FACES ..just like the GITMO closing !!

Their thinking, appease the base .....at the expense of a Nation !!

Well my thinking, Impeach the SOB or force him to RESIGN !!

“Catherine Herridge on FNC now reporting that it could take ten years for the case to go to trial.”

Ten years? Then there isn`t anything for us to get worked up about, yet.

I’ll bet he’s acquitted.

What do they have on him except his own utterances, and they’re going to be thrown out because of duress.

And it`s already been 6 years and 8 months since he`s been captured. I`ll take a guess and say he never goes to trial. Never. Not in this country, anyway.

Yup. “He admitted to it under torture,” defense.

It`s going to be a very bitter pill to swallow, but I think we had better get used to the fact that one way or another, the 9/11 master mind will go free.

Barak Insane Obama wants these guys to be free.

Not only that, but I believe Zero's real goal is to force Bush & Cheney to testify, to satisfy his nutcase base.

Even if the trial goes on, there are no terrorist attacks near the trial and KSM is condemned to death- the idea is still a total failure.

The trial will last months, and the security will inconvenience those who have to be in New York just brutally.

I was in Pittsburgh during the G20 and this will require 20 times the amount of security that G20 did, with streets blocked off, and all kinds of busybody security personnel pestering innocent for their papers and ids on the street.

The potus must have rocks in his head to even think that trying KSM in Manhatten is a good idea on any level.

That picture disgusts me in Zero’s disrespect for our country and our flag! It shows his true colors!

Many. I work with some. And believe me, it will not be easy getting a jury with Muslims willing to convict any Muslim.

In NY, you can kill , and if there isn't a picture of the event you can get away with it.

If he is set free I expect riots. I wouldn't bet on a conviction. NY is Lib city, home of Clinton.

Anyone find it “suspicious” that Eric Holder’s former law firm is representing 17 Guantanomo detainees ???

I did...and had a big thread on that too here on FR. Then, based on one Freeper's suggestion did more research.

That's from Memorial Day and I found a video of the ceremony. That was when Obama walked out at Arlington Cemetery and the officers and civilian were saluting him as he walked out before making his remarks..

He did not, in that instance, and although we know he is capbale of it and how he feels, do disrespect to the flag.

I had the thread pulled, explained this to folks on the thread, and also removed the page I had set up on my site using that photo as another Obama disrespect moment.

We know who and what he is...but have to remain accurate in our documenting of it.

Unbelievable. Geraldo Rivera just said Hermman Goering should have been brought to the U.S. and given a civilian trial instead of the military tribunal he faced.

For these terrorist enemy combatants I strongly suggest being thrown off a tall building into a 2” deep vat of pig entrails. Trial?!?! We don’t need no stinkin’ trial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A summary execution at ground zero would be more appropriate.

One bullet at dawn trumps 3 or 4 years of legal wrangling and anti-American propaganda.

KSM's rights HAVE BEEN VIOLATED. There is no way one of Obama's butt-buddies is going to go to trial. Any Socialiist judge worth his ACLU membership is going to throw this case out at the first hearing. No Miranda, right to a speedy trial, how he was questioned, cruel and unusual holding conditions...

Under our system of "check and balances", KSM IS GOING TO WALK...
