The only Republican to vote for the House Democrats' health care reform bill said he voted his conscience, putting aside concerns about the cost in hopes of providing health care access to all Americans.

Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao of Louisiana said he cast "a very difficult vote" on Saturday, when the House passed the bill 220-215, just over the 218 required for passage.

"But at the end of the day I have to vote on the needs of my district down here in New Orleans and vote according to my conscience," Mr. Cao said in an inte

I don’t see why people are giving Cao such a hard time. He represents a 90% Dem district, and he has very, very little chance of being re-elected either way. What do you expect him to do?

Just watch. The worthless RNC will still probably send him more money in 2010 than any other GOP candidate.

And that's not sarcasm.

He’s from Jefferson’s old district. He had to vote with his constituents.

Democratic pup tent won’t even allow a moderate GOP RINO a spot in the back.

His district is overwhelmingly Democratic. He voted according to his constituents' wishes. I don't think any other Republican represents a predominantly Democratic district. This is the New Orleans Ninth Ward we are talking about.

If he has very little chance of being re-elected no matter his vote on this matter, then why vote for socialism?

Ignorant little jerk. So to saddle all of America with this unconstitutional bill he is more concerned about getting reelected and I'm sure he got some kind of compensation, he is a fool. He will change parties.

I know what I’d do in his situation. Reign down hellfire and brimstone upon them verbally, and vote for what’s right every single time. After all I’d have nothing to lose.

(or, as Gene Hackman put it in The Replacements, there is no tomorrow for you, and that makes you all VERY DANGEROUS PEOPLE!)

If it is anyway a Dim district and his votes are going to help only Dims, just end his career so that it sets an example to other RINOS. There is no loss here, but it sends a good message to other RINOS.

Maybe the constituents of that district are “racist” and won’t vote for this guy because he does not look like them? Perhaps the SCUM should investigate that?

Well, on the one hand, voting your conscience, on the surface, is a good thing.

However, when that vote entails approval of a NON-Constitutional law, involving the theft of my labors, and for my non-compliance jail time, I’d say that Mr. Cao has no conscience and voted out of fear for his job. Loser.

They all are and no I didn't expect him to vote to end his career. He'll probably be replaced by a black Democrat there next year.

I guess this confirms that costs are PURPOSEFULLY not in the thought or conscience of this man.

Exactly!

The people in his district are collectively so stupid, they think the health-care bill is free stuff.

Oh gee, he is so upset he went on Olberman to crow about his vote.

So, your conscience tyells you that it’s okay to vote for an unconstitutional bill that will put more and more Americans under the heel of a larger and larger government, put the healthcare decisions of millions of Americans in the hands of some incompetent bureaucrat, and generally turn the best healthcare system in the world into some third-rate British-style system where people have to wait months and months for basic medical services. Wow. That’s some conscience.
