Does everybody know how insurance should work? IMHO, everybody participates in basic catastrophic and chronic illness coverage and shares the risk and the cost: everybody should be covered birth to death and costs are kept low because of the great number of participants.

Insurance won't work if it insures only "sick" people. Everyone that can afford it should buy insurance and if you have to threaten them it's OK with me. Poor people,temporarily unemployed and children get financial help. Besides, everyone needs it eventually since we are all mortal. And, an open nationwide market with many insurance companies participating also keeps competition high and costs low. No public option needed at all. And we need serious malpractice reform.
