Does everybody know how insurance should work? IMHO, everybody participates in basic catastrophic and chronic illness coverage and shares the risk and the cost: everybody should be covered birth to death and costs are kept low because of the great number of participants.

Insurance won't work if it insures only "sick" people. Everyone that can afford it should buy insurance and if you have to threaten them it's OK with me. Poor people, temporarily unemployed and children get financial help. Besides, everyone needs it eventually since we are all mortal. And, an open nationwide market with many insurance companies participating also keeps competition high and costs low. No public option needed at all. And we need serious malpractice reform. Any Questions?

It's as simple as this, healthcare is a service not a right. It's the people's choice.

Personally, I think there should catastrophic insurance only and everything else is paid out of pocket.

It ain’t okay with me though! I prefer the system the founders intended, if you don’t want health insurance you don’t buy any and if you can’t pay when you need medical care you don’t get any unless some kind physician decides to treat you pro bono. To hell with this cradle to grave government running every detail of life, that life isn’t worth living. Do you have any concept of the word FREEDOM?

“Everyone that can afford it should buy insurance and if you have to threaten them it’s OK with me.”

Hows about if you can afford it (to be determined by whose wisdom I’m scared to ask) and you don’t have it, you shoulder the bill. If you can’t show that you could afford the payments on the treatment you need, then you don’t get the treatment?

One is going to die sooner or later, so how much should the Gov’t forced insurance coverage pay to keep you alive just because it can be done?

There are the cases where perhaps traffic accidents put one in the ER, or some other special circumstances where treatment is going to happen before payment plans can be secured. If the taxpayers have to cover those types of things it would be a much smaller ding to the average American household’s finance than this camel’s nose in the tent.

The government threatening me to buy insurance (or what will they do to me?) is a lot like the government telling me that I can’t ride a motorcycle, or can’t smoke, or participate in church potlucks, or eat too much pie...

Seriously???

Everyone that can afford food should buy it and if you have to threaten them, its ok with me

Everyone that can afford housing should buy it and if you have to threaten them, its ok with me.

Where will it stop? I refuse to give the government this power over our lives. This country is the land of the free and our government does not dictate - is this what you wish?
