Here's a hard truth for the hard right
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | November 8, 2009 | Michael Smerconish

Who is Dede Scozzfava? ...

"This is my party, too," she insisted. "There are a lot of moderate people - Republicans, like me - and I'm hearing from an awful lot of them. And I think the Republican Party needs to know if they don't have room for us and they don't want us working with them, we're going to find a way to work against them."

She acknowledged that many in the GOP would differ with her support for abortion rights and same-sex marriage. But she maintained that she approached those views from a conservative vantage point - a respect for individual liberties...

Her gun-rights bona fides, meanwhile, are beyond reproach. She received an A rating from the National Rifle Association in each election since 2002 (A-plus in 2000) and supported the New York Gun Owners of America in 100 percent of the relevant votes in 2002...

On Thursday, I asked former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who had called Scozzafava's nomination a "train wreck," whether the GOP was better off with Owens headed to Washington. "No, not at all," he said. "The danger of pushing third-party candidates is that you end up with a Democrat rather than a less-than-desirable Republican." ...

Once you fail the litmus test, who cares what else you have to say?

It stopped being your party the day you quit the election for which the party nominated you, and endorsed the democrat in the race while you were still the official Republican candidate.

No person who is picked to be the republican nominee, and ends up screwing the party by endorsing her opponent, can possibly be accepted as "one of us".

I wonder how the NRA feels about having endorsed a candidate who quit the race because she didn't think she could win. They are probably pretty pissed now that they didn't endorse Hoffman instead.

DeDe has made it hard for real moderates to be republicans, because who will trust them after watching her stab her party in the back?

Really, I want Dede Scozzafava to do for the left wing of the GOP what she did for herself this last election. I’d love that.

Oh, we already know! There are LOTS of people like you, who want to work against conservatives.

Maybe you've heard of them? They call themselves "Democrats".

John Murtha gets an A rating from the National Rifle Association as well. He even called in chits to get them to buy radio advertising in his behalf in the waning days of the 2008 campaign. One issue does not a Republican make.

The reason for having a particular political party in the first place is to push a certain agenda. What is the point of having a candidate who is barely distinguishable from a candidate from another party? Just to say the candidate is from your party? It’s ridiculous. All candidates from any party should conform to the party’s basic principles. If the GOP has principles, that is.

Isn’t this funny? The party supported her. The people who live in her district were the ones who did not support her. Now she is angry and she’s going to get even. What a kook.

I’d rather have a Democrat than a Democrat-light GOP. Frankly I’m sick of holding my nose when I vote.
