Sound of Silence During Obama Veterans Day Speech at Arlington Cemetery

Barack Obama's speech commemorating Veterans Day at Arlinton Cemetery this morning was received with stony silence by those in attendance.

What should have been applause lines for Obama about caring for our veterans drew no cheers, no clapping and no 'hooahs'.

There was no Prince-concert-squealing for Obama like there was yesterday at the Fort Hood memorial service. In fact there was no cheering at all for the commander-in-chief in a time of war. Just polite, subdued applause when Obama was introduced and when he conluded his speech.

In contrast, a randomly selected Veterans Day speech by President George W. Bush shows numerous interruptions for applause.

A transcript of Bush's 2004 speech includes notations of eight interruptions for applause before the final notation of applause at the conclusion of his speech.

Can this link be posted with this article? This shows the complete *lack* of response from the audience. I’ve never seen anything like it.

I saved the picture of the Lyin’ King NOT saluting, and sent it to everyone on my mailing list with this message!

Check out this latest picture from YESTERDAY, Veterans Day 11/11/09 at the Ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery.

I don’t know whether the National Anthem is being played, or the Flag is going by, or WHAT, but EVERYBODY in the picture is either saluting or has his or her hand over the HEART.

All except ONE.

Guess who.

I do not make this stuff up!
__________

I hope all FReepers will do the same

No problem! I will ALWAYS bump a good and truthful post like this:

It is obvious from videos that President Bush was beloved by the military, and the Lyin’ King is LOATHED.

That outfit screams “Look at Me!”

NOT what one should wear to a cemetary.

Do you have any links to the speeches given by GW, when he was president - for comparison??

See my post #224.

He did NOT/would not/ could not say George Washington’s name. Referred to him as “Our first Commander in Chief.” not “George Washington, our first Commander in Chief”

That's because, among his fellow Rev. Wright devotees, George Washington is the Father of his Country (snicker, snicker) due to all the colored-folks he fathered as a slave owner.

Saying the name "Washington" leaves a bad taste in their mouth.

I am watching these without sound.

Ohmygosh, the one where he sings "God Bless AMerica' and cries is spine-tingling.

Even without sound, you can SEE the passion, the emotion in his Veteran Day speeches !

0bama just "phones" it in.

He could not have looked more nonchalant as if he was doing it in disgust and only because he had to. He stiff armed the wreath as if he did not even want to touch it.

That reminds me of his attending the remembrance service in NYC on 9/11/08.

Do you remember that ?

He showed up without Michelle, but McCain was there with his wife (and they both walked up and layed flowers very solemly)

0bama walked up and "TOSSED" the flowers at the memorial !

YouTube has removed the video. Maybe if someone has time to find another video of it, the link in the article above could be changed?

I get the feeling that the troops in Afghanistan must be feeling like the “bastards of Bataan” did, only worse.

Um, if the same percentage of soldiers get killed in Afghanistan as died in the Bataan Death March, Obama will be impeached.

Not to diss the soldiers in Afghanistan, but ... Remembered as Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) in the Philippines, the Bataan Death March is one of the most brutal acts in human history. I have only the utmost respect and awe for the men who survived (and even more respect for the ones who did not survive).

I know what you mean. I was only referring to the feeling of abandonment, not a side-by-side comparison. The only things that compare in this war to that as far as brutality, have been the beheadings.

That was back when no sane American would ever have tried to make a case for the Japanese or for America having "brought it upon themselves". We knew who the heroes were, and we knew who the enemy was.
