Goodbye,my beloved son:Father gives up court battle to keep his disabled boy alive-
Mail Online ^ | 10th November 2009 | Beth Hale

In the end the young father could fight no longer.

For more than a year he had made daily visits to the hospital bedside of his chronically-disabled son.

For six emotional days in the High Court he had battled against the hospital - and the baby's mother - who were reluctantly seeking the right to withdraw life support.

Finally, faced with overwhelming evidence, he made the 'agonising' decision to let his beloved son go.

Both parents wept as the court was told he no longer opposed the hospital's application.

They said later they wanted to spend 'what little time remains with their beloved son'.

The father's heart-breaking move came after an independent expert said his son's quality of life was not good enough to justify prolonging it.

The 13-month-old boy, identified only as RB, has an extremely rare disorder that has robbed him of almost all muscle control.

His brain is undamaged, but trapped in an almost immovable body, unable to speak or even smile.

Incapable of breathing, he has been dependent on a ventilator since he was born.

Now it will be turned off within days. Doctors will administer a large dose of sedative to ensure the little boy does not suffer as he dies.

Sorry, not a death worshiper or endorser. God takes His own at the time of His choosing. IMO, this precious ittle boy is being murdered by society’s whims, the same way Terri Shiavo was. His father is willing to care for him, but he ‘doesn’t count’. >:-( If the little boy’s life is a waste of time and resources, then Hawking should be killed too. After all, his body is useless, even though his mind is fine. [shudders with rage]

If by some miracle this little boy survives the ventilator being removed, what then? A pillow over his face because, you know, he’s suffering? HOW DO WE KNOW?

God, so many of these arguments sound EXACTLY like the liberal excuses for abortion on demand...ack! :*(

(Satin Doll, don’t take any of my vent personally, this all reminds me of Terri Shiavo’s murder. :*(

So *you* know he’ll die when he’s taken off the ventilator? Because there’s been many examples of such things not happening, the person, who has been written off by the doctors, begins breathing on their own.

What then? A pillow over the face? :-(

The only other place I’ve seen it used was at the DUmp...very liberal phrase, that.

This isn’t Terri Schiavo’s murder redux and I’m no death lover.

Terri Schiavo could breathe on her own and responded to stimuli. I believe she would have improved if given therapy. If her parents had been granted custody she would be doing much better today, I’m certain of that. I agree that when food and water was withheld she was murdered.

This little boy is being kept artificially alive contrary to what God intended when the child ceased being able to breathe on his own. He is not being murdered by society’s whims if removed from a ventilator.

“A pillow over the face?”

God, no! If he can breathe on his own then there is a chance that eventually more of his muscles can be restored to working condition. If he can breathe maybe he can swallow and begin eating solid food. If he does breathe then there is hope, even slightly, that maybe he can fully recover.

But his present condition is like being in prison with no parole in sight. We cannot know how much he suffers.

A pillow over the face?

Absolutely not.

You wrote: "So *you* know he'll die when he's taken off the ventilator?"

Please reread what I wrote, in particular the sentence, "That doesn't appear to be the case for him." I never said he would die. How can I know that?

It’s amazing how much trash gets picked up at the DUmp, by trash. On the surface, it may sound noble to pick up trash, but they get it backwards. They pick up trash from the DUmp, and scatter it in the clean waters of the sea of knowledge. I always need a shower after reading one of their posts. A few years ago I made the mistake of going to the DUmp, just to see what was there. I had to take an acid bath afterward.

What is that? More of what you’ve picked up at the DUmp?

The Terri Schiavo nightmare heavily disturbed me to the extent that I vowed never to let myself become so emotionally and mentally upset over any other case. IMO she was murdered by evil-doers and politicians too weak and selfish to stop it.

Terri's situation can't be justly compared with that of this little baby boy. Should he have had to depend on the extraordinary measure of breathing with a ventilator for as long as he lived?

If he survived without the ventilator, that would change everything.

I doubt anyone is forced to post things here that they don’t believe. When someone posts here, chances are it’s a reflection of their values. I’ve noticed that people who habitually post vile disgusting crap generally deny that what they say reveals their values.

Well, our daughter was born with very little brain tissue. The neurosurgeons said that if she lived to be 4 days old they would be surprised, but only then would they install a shunt to relieve the hydrocephalic pressure.

The shunt was leaking at 21 days and had to be revised. Only then did we fully understand the acuteness of her condition.

The doctor took us in a completely dark room with the baby. He chatted with us while our eyes grew accustomed to the dark. Then he placed a flashlight shining into the baby's “soft spot.”

Her cranium lit up from ear to ear -— unbelievably translucent. “There,” he said, “Look for yourselves, this child virtually has no brain—she is USELESS(!)-—she could never be any more than a severely retarded vegetable. Now, let us revise the shunt and take her away. I'll prepare the papers-—the state will take her-—go home and forget she was ever born.”

That was the expert testimony we received IN 1979:

“SHE IS USELESS.”
“SHE COULD NEVER BE ANY MORE THAN A SEVERELY RETARDED VEGETABLE.”
“THE STATE (Florida) WILL TAKE HER.”
“GO HOME AND FORGET SHE WAS EVER BORN.”

That “useless” child turned 30 this past July.

She is a math whiz.
She is a musician.
She is a poet extraordinaire.
She works at a Christian day school in Alabama.

If something like Obamacare had been implemented by 1979, our daughter would not have made it.

I'm grateful there was no Obamacare then, and I will continue to fight against anything like Obamacare now.

Yep. Welcome to ObamaCair. They're happy to take your money, but when it comes time to provide you with the services you paid for, this is the attitude you'll be up against.

"60,000 Reichsmark is what this person
suffering from hereditary defects costs
the community during his lifetime.
Fellow Germans, that is your money,
too. Read 'New People', the monthly
magazine of the Bureau for Race
Politics of the Nazi Party."

Thank you for sharing your experience, and for using the lessons you learned from that to help the rest of us. God bless you.

So you condemn ALL life saving medical procedures?

“Extraordinary measure”?! What do you think about defibrillators, pacemakers, bypass surgery, prosthetics???
The list goes on and on and on.

If this is all about “this isn’t what God wanted”, then NO additional technology that helps mankind is kosher—NONE of it. We should all die and be done with it, right? Because that’s not what God intended for us, is it?

IMO, God provided man with the technology to HELP OTHERS AS WE WOULD LIKE OTHERS TO HELP US. Why would this little boy be outside of that? Because others ‘feel’ death is better than life for him??

God will provide for this little boy. I have no doubt of that. And I hope to meet him in God’s Kingdom someday.

IIRC, Terri was ‘dead’ when her POS ‘husband’ ‘found her’ and she was revived, which is why she had the brain damage in the first place. RB and Terri are VERY similar in that they are innocents caught up by the decisions of people around them...in RB’s case, HIS BRAIN IS FUNCTIONING 100%!

My daughter, God bless her, had this solution—”Find a little boy the same age who has brain damages so bad he can’t think at all, but his body is okay, and do a brain transplant so both of them can survive!”

If only. *sigh*

OMG, what a horrifying ordeal you had to go through!!
:*(

I thank GOD you endured and saved your daughter’s life! :*)
I believe God had wonderful plans for her, and this little boy too!

I’m praying he will get a reprieve and someone will save his life—like my daughter says, who knows if some doctor somewhere will invent a cure for his condition tomorrow??

Sweet innocent kid, I pray someday it’s true too!

Thank you.

Think about it. If a neurosurgeon back in 1979, without there having been any of this Marxist-socialist healthcare legislation, could look a set of parents in the face and call their bay “USELESS” (e.g. no value of life), to what will parents with sick or handicapped children have to listen to or deal with under Pelossi/Obama/Reid-care ????!

We also have a granddaughter born with NKH, a disorder in which the body does not control the glycine levels, dangerous to muscles, organs and the brain itself.

She is two years old now. Progress is slow, but love surrounds her, and God’s providence and preservation is manifest. If this legislation had been enacted prior to two years ago, there would be another little grave somewhere in Ohio, because, I am certain, the bureacrats would have told the doctors that this little girl is “USELESS” too.
