Ok freepers on this thread have nothing but bad things to say about this previous GOP Mayor.

I hope Bartlett JR. is better. (his father wasn’t a RINO was he?)

Funny I always thought Tulsa (and OK City) were quite Republican on the local level going way back. I guess not.

Bartlett, Sr. was fairly Conservative (it was his seatmate Henry Bellmon, who like Bartlett also had served as Governor, was the one who exhibited RINO tendencies and really screwed up on voting to give away the Panama Canal - for which he opted not to run in 1980 - though his reasoning was if we didn’t turn it over, there’d be a civil war fought over it). Bartlett was also dying of lung cancer by 1978 and he was thoroughly unable to mount a reelection bid (which was won by Democrat then-Gov. David Boren), and he voted contrary to Bellmon, especially on the Panama Canal giveaway. He died 2 months after his term ended (he was only 59).

They may be Republicans, but few are conservatives. :-(
