Graham: Becoming energy independent, cleaning our environment....(Here We Go Again...)
Palmetto Scoop ^ | November 10, 2009 | Senator Lindsey Graham

Posted on 11/10/2009 1:39:22 PM PST by yoe

Our nation stands at a crossroads as many significant issues have been ignored for decades. Among them is energy independence and passing along a cleaner environment to future generations.

As a conservative, I have always believed we can and should be better stewards of God’s creation. I also know we can strengthen our economy and national security by becoming energy independent.

Last year we spent more than $440 billion on foreign oil and now find ourselves more dependent on overseas supplies than at any other time in our nation’s history. Sometimes our money even goes to fund enemies bent on our destruction.

And who will ever forget last year’s $4 a gallon gas? America has been held hostage by foreign cartels far too long and it’s now time we do something about it.

The climate change debate affords us a prime opportunity to address these issues in a way that benefits our economy, national security and environment. Even a long-time skeptic, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has called for, “a new conversation” and believes there is now, “a solid, workable, commonsense foundation” on which to craft a bill.

Same 'ol, same 'ol.....this rhetoric is really tiresome. Senator Graham is weak on Cap & Trade; he was for it but now not so sure....what does he really think?

Graham on Health Care......"The Bill has already been pronounced "Dead on arrival' by Senator Lindsay Graham despite the 'historic' nature of the legislation which passed the House by a mere five votes."Just look at how it passed he said." Folks if you buy that specious argument...you are eligible for a bridge somewhere in Manhattan.

The RINO Senators will try to lull us to sleep on both Health Care and Cap and Trade. Neither bill should see the light of day because of the hidden stratagems for power and taxes.

Senator Graham, America needs more refineries for Natural Gas and Oil. We need more Nuclear Power Plants.....energy problems solved. Our environment is pretty darn clean....our farmers need the water not the "pup fish" or other species that should be allowed to do die out. No United Nations Tax for "clean air" or "clean energy" America is doing just fine. And our government must stop destroying our free enterprise i.e. CAPITALISM. Senator we need less Government starting now. Be very careful of what you say.............

Please. Cap’n’trade does nothing to reduce imported fuel. Not one drop does it save.

Windmills and solar plants, similarly do not replace a drop of foreign oil; they replace coal and natural gas in which we are already self-sufficient.

If you want energy independence, then open up the coasts to drilling (and yes, give the concessionaires a time limit to their concession). Kill the moratorium on oil shale. Spark the building of coal-to-liquids plants.

And if you believe in electric cars, build nukes like there was no tomorrow.

Hey Graham..the ‘environment’ that really needs cleaning up is the PC ‘environment’ coming out of Washington that got our soldiers killed!

NOW GET TO WORK!

Decrease our dependence on foreign energy while cleaning the environment up? Does the solution Lindsay is considering for the former include nuclear and domestic drilling? If not, then he’s full of it and just using focus group selected buzzwords to make his pursuit of the second goal seem reasonable. It’s not, it’s committing to drastically cutting our emissions unilaterally, and if we cannot exploit nuclear it equates to drastically reducing our consumption and hence our production. Crippling our economy to satisfies the watermelon lobby (green on the outside, red on the inside) is disaster.

Charleston Republicans issued a rebuke to Graham. His support for this initiative has been exposed, and it turns out he’s getting Soros money. The SCGOP is having trouble raising money because nobody wants their dime going to a traitor.

People will be wishing for $4 a gallon gas once his version of "energy independence" kicks in.

Cleaning up the environment.

I have to wonder when the last time Lindsey Winky saw a tree that didn’t have mowed grass or concrete at its base. Those of us who actually live out here in the sticks have a far better idea of how much pollution there is.

Maybe its time these clowns started worrying more about their own environment.

I believe climate change legislation should open additional regions to responsible offshore drilling. If our state consented to drilling off our shores beyond the horizon, South Carolina would share in the revenues. Every barrel we find here at home is one less we import from overseas. Let’s turn “Drill Here Drill Now” from a slogan into reality.

For crying out loud. The "climate change" zealots don't think it's "responsible" to drill for a single drop of oil. That's the whole basis of their argument. If you want energy independence, nuclear energy, offshore drilling, etc, then you have to nuke their argument, not "meet them halfway".

Yes, it does. But that doesn't make his solution more viable. The essay is a disjointed mess. It's "I'll go along with a b and c if you x y and z". Then the thing will get his vote and x y and z will be taken out of the legislation down the road.

Yes, the resolution process where a handful of people get to change a bill after it's been voted on is rotten in that regard. But then, in order to get things through both houses some sort of process like that is necessary. The real issue is the ginormous nature of the bills. They all contain massive ammounts of pork and special interest concessions. If the bills were focused on the real purpose of the legislation and ONLY on that, we'd have a better and more transparant government. We'd still get pork bills, but they'd have to be open and not buried in something otherwise useful.

My proposal: no bill can leave either house if it's length in terms of word count is longer than the constitution. If you can't make a bill smaller than the document that defines the entire structure and powers of government, than you have a bill that is no good. If they did that one thing, we'd probably balance the budget in 5 years.

The nerve of this RINO clown referring to himself as a “conservative.” Senator Grahamnesty, I knew Ronald Reagan, and you’re no Ronald Reagan.
