State Sen. Josh Penry intends to drop out of the race for governor.
Penry, 33, of Grand Junction, is facing former U.S. Rep. Scott McInnis and Evergreen businessman Dan Maes for the Republican nomination. But Penry has been meeting with people today to let them know he would leave the race.
One source said an announcement was imminent and that Penry met with McInnis Monday morning to inform him of the decision. Penry explained he was leaving the race for "personal reasons," the source said.
Penry collected about $400,000 in his first quarter of fundraising, coming in second to McInnis' $545,000 for the quarter.

Penry might run against John Salazar ?
Penry out of the Governor’s race in CO (might run with McInnis as Lt Governor or against Salazar in CO-3).
State Rep. Scott Tipton will run against John Salazar in the Western Slope district.
Probably he figures he’ll lose the primary and doesn’t want to needlessly hurt McInnis for the general.
It seems like people think Tipton is good candidate against Salazar.
Penry would be the best possible running mate for LT Governor.
Or if he becomes State Senate President in 2011 if the GOP tales control that would be good too.
Not enthusiastic about McInnis, maybe I'll sit this one out.
Sitting out may mean the return of Ritter and his pals.
