Star Tribune to cut about 100 jobs
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | 9 Nov 2009 | Jennifer Bjorhus

Posted on 11/09/2009 10:43:13 AM PST by Colonel_Flagg

The Star Tribune is cutting another 100 jobs companywide to further shave costs after bankruptcy. The company's operating committee announced the cuts this morning, saying that the "cracking of our historical economic model and the current Great Recession have forced us to move quickly to make meaningful and difficult adjustments over the next few months."

About 30 of the cuts will come from the newsroom and editorial staff -- about a 10 percent reduction -- Star Tribune Editor Nancy Barnes said. The company said most of the cuts would be completed by the end of the year, but that the 30 cuts to come from the newsroom may take a little longer.

Any bets that it will be mostly conservatives, such as Katherine Kersten who will be cut? Hmmmmm?

Kersten was cut last year and then they brought her back as a once-in-a-while columnist.

There’s one person I really really hope gets laid off and that’s Lori Sturdivant, a member of the editorial board.

She’s insufferable.

“cracking of our historical economic model”

Things went in the crapper when they quit reporting news fairly and became a PR organ for the Democrats.

I should have know that she wouldn’t last through the first
cut. She’s very honest and pithy...the lefties there at the
Red Star can’t tolerate that.

Libs being sooooo tolerant and all!

I have had her bookmarked, but it only shows current work,
not how often....so I didn’t really know she was not full-time any more.

Believe it or not, the Red Star’s editorial board has actually mellowed out in the last year and a half.

The general tone of the old editorial board was a strange hybrid of in your face sanctimoniousness. They really seemed to relish taking shots at Republicans - of all stripes. There was such a stick a finger in your eye self-righeousness about the.

But thankfully, the worst of them (esp. Jim Boyd) were let given their walking papers.

It’s incredible that AMA and AARP are throwing their own people under the bus to back Zero. There must be some serious payola being thrown around.

Probably less payola than the promise of greater power within a socialist regime.

The people who actually run non-profits are all latent (at least) socialists and detest people who earn profits (which would include their own constituents, of course).

You’re absolutely right about Kersten being pithy and honest.

You should have seen the self righteous “Fire her Ass Now!” letters to the editor that would flow in after one of her columns.

You could tell she was really getting under the skin of the liberals in this city.

They certainly need someone to take them on....and she was
just the woman who could do it. I am sure she is missed by
many who love the truth!

One can only hope it spreads and catches on over at WCCO-TV.
That news staff needs trimmin’ too! The sooner that sanctimonious Don Selby hits the road, the better.
