Star Tribune to cut about 100 jobs
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | 9 Nov 2009 | Jennifer Bjorhus

Posted on 11/09/2009 10:43:13 AM PST by Colonel_Flagg

The Star Tribune is cutting another 100 jobs companywide to further shave costs after bankruptcy. The company's operating committee announced the cuts this morning, saying that the "cracking of our historical economic model and the current Great Recession have forced us to move quickly to make meaningful and difficult adjustments over the next few months."

About 30 of the cuts will come from the newsroom and editorial staff -- about a 10 percent reduction -- Star Tribune Editor Nancy Barnes said. The company said most of the cuts would be completed by the end of the year, but that the 30 cuts to come from the newsroom may take a little longer.

Ever since the Rocky Mountain News folded, the Denver Post has been cutting, cutting, cutting. Today we got three sections of the paper in one that was smaller than one section in the pre-Rocky closing days.

Won’t matter; the lefties at the Star Tribune will be the very LAST to lose their jobs anyway.

This won’t change a thing. The Star Tribune isn’t known as the Red Star for nothing. They don’t seem to mind losing circulation as long as they get their socialist message out.

Hope & Change. The liberal media wanted Chavez-Hussein to bring us marxism and Islam.

I guess they thought they could keep their jobs.

Doctors better wake up and start writing checks to conservative Repubs campaigns to fight Obama DeathCare tooth and nail.

The alternative is they will be working for ACORN/SEIU union goons.

The newspaper where I live has students going door to door trying sell subscriptions. They sell so many and get some trip or something funded.

So I said sure since it was 2 dollars a week for the daily paper. I figured that I would donate the papers to Adopt-A-Pet so they could line cages with it.

It’s incredible that AMA and AARP are throwing their own people under the bus to back Zero. There must be some serious payola being thrown around.

Let’s see, they tilt hard to the left and thereby eliminate the most prosperous 50% of their potential readership while focusing on the segment who don’t or can’t read a newspaper. Nice business model...

"Our historical model" = unswerving fealty to liberalism

Notice that the Strib didn’t enable reader comments on this story. Small wonder there.
