Some Democrats vow to block final passage if amendment stays
By Alec MacGillis Washington Post Staff Writer Monday, November 9, 2009
President Obama and Senate Democrats sought on Sunday to generate momentum from the House's passage of health-care legislation, even as a new hurdle emerged: profound dismay among abortion-rights supporters over antiabortion provisions inserted into the House bill.

41 Pro Abortion Dems have reportedly sent a letter to Pelosi warning that if the Stupak amendment survives they will vote against the final bill.
But if Stupak is removed the so-called Blue Dogs will lose their cover.
Either way I don’t see them getting to 218 votes

I love it!
Cannabalizing their own bill over their holy sacrament of abortion. I hope they follow through!
"There's going to be a firestorm here," DeGette said. "Women are going to realize that a Democratic-controlled House has passed legislation that would prohibit women paying for abortions with their own funds. . . . We're not going to let this into law."
I am as pro-life as anyone here on this forum, but the abortion amendment is a red herring. We don’t want govt. health care reform, with or without an abortion provision, so pro-lifers should not make that the issue on whether it should pass or fail. By making this the focus, it allowed the bill to pass on Saturday with the so-called Stupak amendment.
my guess is at the end of the day the Pro Aborts will hold their noses and vote yes, wait a couple of years until as many people as possible are pushed onto the public option, and then ask the Wise Latina to fix it for them.
And 41 Democrats said they would vote against the final version of the bill if it HAS the Stupak Amendment.
I permit myself a brief "heh." But we have to stay on this. Please, anybody who reads this, ping me with any articles that lay out the whole strategic picture.
As of now, I am guardedly hopeful of knocking the whole damned thing down.
All I am saying is that an interesting schism is opening up over this amendment and we should do all we can to exploit that opening.
The nuts and bolts is to get to 218 votes against final passage.
I am not promoting the idea that the bill is OK so long as abortion funding is prohibited.
The whole damned bill is an abortion.
