Iran has charged three detained US citizens with espionage, the Islamic republic's judiciary has told reporters.

The foreigners were arrested after they strayed into Iran, from northern Iraq, at the end of July.

"We believe strongly that there is no evidence to support any charge whatsoever," US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on a visit to Berlin.

I think these kids are students at UC Berkley. Even an idiot would know any one from this institution would never spy for the US of A.

I hope we get them out of there safe and sound.

3 American hikers? No, 3 American idiots.
If you simply must hike near Iran, you assume the risk of being very close to a violent theocracy.

I hope it works out for the hikers, but I have no sympathy.

This morning I was in the gym on the treadmill. The TV news had a 3d graphic simulation of that region of the Iran-Iraq border.

In my mind, I imagined a level, sandy plain.

IT LOOKS LIKE THE FREAKING HIMALAYAS.

You would NOT casually stray into Iran there —NO FREAKING WAY.

These people really, reallllly wanted to get into Iran —this was obviously some form of activism, and they thought their anti-US leftism would make them welcome.

No truer words were ever spoken...my thoughts exactly.

I think Iran may actually end up doing us a great favor if they just ‘handle things’ over there. No doubt these are Obama’s “base” voters; uninformed, arrogant and dangerously stupid.

Cost of tickets to fly to Iranian area? Cost of hiking equipment, food, lodging? Knowing that tensions are tense between your native country, and Iran; then hiking along the border region without a $250 GPS to know for certain that you have not crossed the border? No one in the party knew where they were?

Dangerously stupid people. There are plenty of mountains in other areas of the world that are great places to hike. Either way, I don’t hike the mountains in my own back yard without a GPS and a cell phone. If the cell phone doesn’t work - I at least always know where I am.

These idiot deserve everything they get.

The Iranians have this kabuki plan down pat. Charge 'em with a capital offense, run right up to some deadline and then magnanimously pardon them to accolades from the Western media about what a fine gesture to the community of nations this is. Been there, done that, many times.

The bonus is it distracts from The Bomb issue.

Reminds me of the time the “RoP” folks took the church of the Nativity hostage. There was a Japanese couple on vacation who tied to get into the church during the standoff. Simply oblivious to the world around them.

I also recall hearing a story of an aid working in Africa. He was on a road close to a river(forget the name) that was home to many crocs. He sees three Peace Corps folks walking down the road to the river dressed in bathing suits. He politely says, “I hope you’re not going to go swimming, there are crocs in the river.” To which they reply, “it’s OK, we’re with the Peace Corps.” After not being able to convince them that they WILL die, he goes on his way thinking that he at least talked them into going to look at the river rather than swim. He hears a couple days later than two of them did not make it back.

Hostage-taking worked for the Iranians when Jimmy Carter was President, and hostage-taking will work for them as long as Barack Obama is President.

All three are hard-leftist, America-hating, israel-despising freelance journalists. 2 of the three live in Damascus full time.

They were certainly NOT ‘lost hikers’. It’s just more leftists who thought a dictatorship love them because they hate America too. They should rot in prison. But Obama will give up something valuable so they can go back home to Syria and continue writing anti-israel and anti-American screed.

You are serious? Unbelievable. They are dumb journalists for sure...of course that is not an unusual combination nowadays: dumb and journalist.

Well when Obama negotiates their release they can write a book praising the O and how noce Aqua-Velvajad was. Then...we can see the movie starring Sean Penn and Janine Garafalo. Al Franken can play the mad but benevolent Aqua-Velvajad.

Lordy!
