General Electric Co. and Comcast Corp. have settled on how to value NBC Universal, clearing a key obstacle to giving Comcast control of GE's television and movie company, said people familiar with the matter.
After weeks of wrestling, both sides have agreed to value NBC Universal in the neighborhood of $30 billion, people close to the talks said. The agreement includes a mechanism that could reduce the cash Comcast would have to kick in when the deal closes, two of those people said.
The two companies are now ironing out final details of a deal and an announcement could come as early as the end of this week, they said.
It is possible negotiations could be delayed or unravel. One wild card remains French media and telecom company Vivendi SA, which owns 20% of NBC Universal. Vivendi has told 80%-owner GE it wants to sell its stake this year, said people familiar with the matter. It is unclear whether Vivendi has agreed to the deal being considered by Comcast and GE. A Vivendi spokesman declined to comment.

Could this mean an end to the slavering obsequiessness of Obama
$30 billion for the Titanic. Sounds reasonable.
Does this means that GE sees political changes comming and doesn’t wan’t nosey noisey congressional investigations scrutinizing CNBC/NBC news coverage ?
Comcast will be more sensitive to consumers. General Electric with its great diversification (they manufacture locomotives) could care less about unhappy viewers of NBC.
As you read further into the article, the $30 billion number is a construct. It is nowhere near the amount of money that Comcast is putting up. Lots of 'creative financing' in the deal.
I hate what NBC Universal has done to the Weather Channel.
No.
I don’t care who owns it, I still won’t watch it...unless they do a clean sweep of their commentators MSNBC and CNBC, Matthews, Olberman, Cramer and Kernan would be a good start.
The Weather Channel hasn’t had an accurate weather forecast in ages, if ever. I stopped watching it.
