California's best years have passed, voters say (but support for Obama remains high)
LA Times ^ | 11/8/09 | Cathleen Decker

Frustrated at California's woes, voters are sharply pessimistic about whether the next governor will be able to move the state in the right direction, and most believe California is in the midst of a long-term decline, a new Los Angeles Times/USC poll shows.

Against that grim backdrop, next year's political contests loom as potentially volatile, but Democrats start out holding the upper hand, the poll found. ..

In the election to replace Schwarzenegger, Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown, the only major figure currently angling for the Democratic nomination, was seen favorably by more than 4 in 10 voters, and unfavorably by about one-quarter. His likely Republican opponents are much less known; none was seen favorably by more than 2 in 10 voters, the poll indicated.

There was little confidence that the next governor, whoever he or she may be, would be able to successfully battle California's problems. ..

...

Asked about next year's election for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Democrat Barbara Boxer, nearly 3 in 5 voters said they "want a senator who will mostly support" Obama's policies. .

Few voters said they knew enough to have an opinion about either of the Republicans running to challenge Boxer, Carly Fiorina and Chuck DeVore. Voters, however, have a favorable view of Boxer, about in line with where she has stood before her three prior victories in Senate races.

The findings come from a new Los Angeles Times/USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences poll. The survey, based on interviews of 1,500 registered voters from Oct. 27 to Nov. 3, was conducted by two prominent national pollsters, the Democratic firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner and the Republican firm Public Opinion Strategies. The results for the full sample have a margin of sampling error of +/- 2.6 percentage points.

Because they know Obama, Pelosi and Reid will force the rest of this country to support their largesse. The only thing the Triumvirate can’t control is a massive 10.0 straight down the fault.

California would do for America what it did for itself. This is surreal.

It’s a heavy black district.

The black community will clean his clock on election day.

Of course it “remains high”!

Those “undocumented workers” and liberal idiots in Kalifornia are looking for Odumbo’s big government, big tits to suck on like the pathetic pigs that they are!

They had better not count on it.

Their rich uncle is no longer rich.

Rich uncle is out of money and about to become a very bad credit risk which will make borrowing so expensive that CA might well get pushed under the bus with all of the others who thought they were in on the fix.

Let's face it, in the end too few of us are actually willing to do what our ancestors did to live free.

California is obviously going to have to hit bottom before it snaps out of its drug induced delirium. A lot of its citizens truly live in a mental fantasy land and are going to have to go through a lot of pain to snap back to reality.

Tragically, a lot of them won’t be able to and will quite literally die instead of living in a responsible manner. It will be pitiful to see them living in gutter level dereliction, like severe alcoholics dying of malnutrition who still use every penny they can find for alcohol instead of food. But they will still fight savagely if you try to take their alcohol away.

What can you do? Pray that they come to their senses?

Oh, they’ll pay out and help California; you can count on it. Nevermind they’ll be printing that crap so fast the ink won’t even be dry. They (Obama) will inflate the supply so bad they won’t even be able to buy their own T-Bills like they’re doing now because the auctioneers will know the paper money ain’t worth shit.

Apologies to Californians. You are more in touch with reality than I have given you credit for over the years.

The garbage wants to be subsidized to live on the beach.

When the despicable Sam Farr was having his health care BS sessions here on the coast, all the hippy/bolshevik trash showed up and were delirious about "Free health care!".

Nothing but scheming scum looking for a handout.

I don’t care who the next guv is. CA has a permanent Democrat state legistature. Until this changes, I’d have to agree there is little hope for CA.

The Legislative scum won't be changed: they hand out the goodies to the public employee unions, trial lawyers, etc. and are elected by big city union/welfare majorities.

I had a moment of hope when the additional 10% payroll withholding was announced. I figured maybe it would anger workers enough to trace their missing money back to the Legislature's spending habits. But they'll just blame the "Republican" governor instead.

the democrats can ruin any city or state, given enough time. CA is toast. Bankruptcy and third world ambiance is coming on and the structure or demographics that could stop it are becoming a memory.

Since he is not up for reelection, he has an 'opportunity' to do the right thing. A write in campaign on the theme of:

Arnie - you are out of money - grow some balls, do the right thing and CUT YOUR SPENDING!
